You think that is bad. $3.50 to fill up a little bitty damn Sportster peanut

Two observations:
1. When gas hit two bucks a gallon in California, Klintoon and
Kompany were dead silent. Now that the mid-west is "suffering" the
same fate, it suddenly becomes a national emergency.
2. Since the prices have been so high, weekend traffic is noticeably
lighter. Riding is safer, and there are less junkers on the road to
watch out for.
Given the results, I say let the prices go even higher.
I wish I was in the locked gas cap business since gas is now liquid

I work in an oil refinery, and they aren't expecting prices to go down
until maybe September. If we're lucky they hopefully won't go up much
more.
Guess I should be happy I'm only shelling out $1.89 for cheap gas these

It's not so much the $2.20 for a gallon but that in the midwest it jumped

Don't wanna get to political here, but these rising gas prices are especially
disturbing to me. I spend and average of 4-5 months a year in the most God
forsaken shithole on the planet--Saudi and Kuwait--as a member of the USAF. F
what ya heard, we all know the only reason we've been there for the past 10
years and are still there is to keep the oil flowing. Now before I get bashed
to much, I reliaze it's my choice to serve and I don't reget it for one second.
But when you spend your tour there confined to a airbase, unable to leave the
secure facitity for fear of terrorist attacks from the nationals, the people we
are "protecting". Then you finally arrive back in the good ole US fo A and
find the gas prices have damn near doubled since ya left, It kinda make ya
wanna throw your hands up and say "What the hell" Thanks for putting up with
my rant, promise from now on I'll keep these opinions confined to

Yup. Y'know what's really curious. I had the chance to observe this
across several states. Here in CA we're "used" to gas that's $.30 or
more over the rest of the country. Partially due to special
formulation (which does *not* explain how they fuck NoCal harder than
they fuck SoCal).
But I noticed the prices soar across the rest of the country and
little new impact in CA. It's as if they know they got some kind of
threshold around $2.00 (not exactly precisely $2.00 but in that
neighborhood) that's a temporary barrier. They have a read on what
our current pain threshold is.
Most expensive gas on my trip: Austin NV, out truly in the middle of
nowhere on Hiway 50 -- prem at around $2.20. But right here in
Jackson CA tends to set the highwater mark for gas prices in the lower
48.

Transportation? I didn't notice gas being more expensive in the
BA, but it does get more expensive the more inland you get and
the farther from a straight line interstate.
What bothered me going from state to state was that people in
Texas and New Mexico and other states regard 90 Octane gas as
being "premium" and charge a "premium" price for it.
And "regular" was as low as 85 Octane.

I think Needles was the most expensive we encountered. Around
$2.65 for Premium.
Don't even ask why we use premium when we know we don't have to.
Though I did find that it prevented pinging when the engines got
really hot (oil temp reading 275!!) in AZ when it was 115
degrees (air temp, in the shade!).
These gas prices are the reward we as a society have earned for
dumping our economical vehicles in favor of low mileage SUVs,
just because most people don't want to be seen driving a station
wagon. Supply and demand.

It's been news for many months (years?) that all of NoCal pays about
$.25 more than SoCal and the BA pays more than most of the rest of
NoCal. The oil companies have had spokesmen come right out and say
that it's because in NoCal folks use less gas (shorter trips than
SoCal) and use less gas and (not in these words) "so we soak 'em
more." Yup. That's what they say.

Yup. When my bike was a stock '96 fuelie, it fuckin *demanded*
premium. I complained at Chevron in Moriarty NM, askin where the
high octane stuff was. ("Premium" pump had 90.) Was told: 90's high
enuf. I walked out saying, in disgust: No it isn't!

You can include the gov'mnt in the blamestorming, too. The fickle
distribution of laws regarding the chemical cocktail the refineries have
to support is expensive and probably isn't helping anything. It

With all due respect, the prices of TWO B-2 bombers would educate
all the stupid, and lower gas prices around the world.
The roads are NOT safer or the traffic "noticeably lighter" like

Sorry to hear you have to pay that much for gas, Par.
As you said and noticed however, it's worth every penny when you

Further taxation isn't the answer to anything when that money

Okay, I guess I don't have much to complain about comparatively
speaking, but it still smokes my oysters that gas prices have gone up
between 40 and 50 cents per gal. in less than 6 months. Around here in
central PA I'm paying around $1.53 a gal. for regular (87 octane). Just
my .02 cents worth. (Or 1 100th of a gal.)

Steph,
Thats just your own anal retentive self flagellating self exposing itself!
The guys who "shelf" the profits are certainly glad everyone is into SUV's.
They're not about to punish anyone over it. Encourage it hell yes!
If they were truly punishing us - the the Europeans and other countries
where compact car usage is much higher than here in the US, would have
lower prices, but no that is *NOT* what happens at all. Instead they have
higher prices yet, why? Because it takes higher prices to uphold the same
level of profit for the money grubbers (both private & govt.).

Hey, I'm not complaining. At worst, I get 32mpg on my bike,
generally around 38. And I *knew* my *car* would be somewhat
expensive to drive, getting only around 21mpg.
For people who bought vehicles that get 15mpg, I can just
say, "Ride a bike, otherwise deal with it".
I remember people in the rest of the country feeling that we in
California deserved our higher fuel prices when we started
whining about it 6-8 months ago. It's old news to us. What I
object to, and I said something about it, is people charging

I've been paying from 86p per litre in the UK, 8.9 Francs per litre in

Well, if we did become part of Canada, maybe our out of work animation

some of the jobs that they lost to government underwritten animation

But then again, no-fault insurance sucks, and Canada has even worse

Just thought I'd throw some balance into that anti-Democrat sentiment
there, Waro.

Ride up a bit further north. Tulsa has 93 octane available all over. I couldn't
say for sure about OKC though. I always fill up in Tulsa before heading that
way.

Yep Les, you're right - it's been a while since I've been to Tulsa - usually try to
avoid it. Too many inlaws.
Also, for a state that has hills, lakes, caves and lots of natural attractions,
Tulsa doesn't quite fit in. It's like finding in the vast and diverse state of
Texas a city like Dallas.

Heh. Maybe that's why, when we were passing through, it seemed like
every car from Geo Metros to Ford Expeditions, had to burn rubber at

I can't remember, really because it's all kind of a blur after visiting
the JM Davis Gun Museum and that Blue Whale thing on 66, but I seem to
remember not seeing any 93 octane when we stopped for gas in Tulsa.
Any particular brands have it, and any particular ones not have it?

Well, being the first state to be visited by the old world, I say that
we should simply understand that we don't have the right to give away
other, autonomous states; the connotations of the words United STATES
come shining through.
Florida will not be anyone's but Floridians. If you have a problem
in YOUR state, you should fix it.
The way I understand it. They pay the same for barrel of oil as we do. Due
to the high taxes that their socialist government impose on them, they end
up with these high gas prices.
It makes us Americans look silly for complaining about our 18 cent federal
level fuel tax. Those poor fellows are paying around $3.00 a gallon in tax
along.

The blue whale is really looking better than it did a few years ago. It looked
like it needed demolished for several years.
I haven't been through the JM Davis museum in several years, but I was
impressed with the guns they have. They had a slick pair of brass knuckles with
a knife & a revolver built in. Talk about prepared. <G>
>Any particular brands have it, and any particular ones not have it?
Any Quick Trip will have the 93 octane. That's the only place I buy gas unless
I'm out on the road. I really don't pay any attention to the other stores to
see what they have.
Sorry I missed ya on the way through. I was sweatin' my ass off putting a new
roof on a house. We started Memorial weekend & finished it up the next weekend.
Maybe next trip through...

Well, it's official. The rest of the nation has indeed caught up with
CA prices, as I had observed. Must be true; the media picked up on

And you're simply an insular idiot. Southern California, in
particular, south Orange and San Diego counties, have had the
highest gas prices for quite some time. Since you don't "ride"
here, I'd say you're blowing as much smoke as Panhead.
So what? Well obviously education is something you will ever

I am like that little yellow duck, it is raining and cold and I don't give a
fuck. I am just qacking away having a good time.
Now, what that means is, I am too damn old and been though too much real
