Ann put down a non-refundable $2000 deposit on the van. Our goal is to
have the money by
mid-February. This amount, though, does NOT include title, tax, and

I MUST applaud you for the efforts you have done and will do for a
friend that needs help. He (Eddie) is indeed fortunate to have a miracle
worker on his side.If truely there is a God, you are going to be his
right hand girl. This God guy will be a lucky chap indeed!
However, I have a problem. I have nothing to auction off that people
would want to pay for, nor saw anything I want to bid on.I also have a
wife that I gave full-tilt-boogy control of my finances. (she's very
good and I do NOT wish to change this perfect balance)...for instance;
There is no way she is going to let me cut loose with a check unless
this is a tax deductable expense.
While this seems to make me out as a cold-hearted SOB, with no
feelings and etc...I really am not. I would like to help. But according
to Uncle Sugar,I must at least ask.
This would help you out also if folks knew this ...and indeed it was a
tax deductable thing. I think I could make a sizeable donation if it
were. Otherwise, all I can give at this moment is my best wishes and
utmost support to Eddie, and to you also for the work you are doing, and
to those that are donating and giving.
I wish I could sew...I woud make the patches you were asking for.(but
I am deathly afraid of needles and other sharp pointy things)
If I could donate a paint job? Hmmm. I would be happy do donate my
labor. I'll even chip in the paint.(what I have in stock)
If there is a way I can other wise help, let me know.
Most truely yours,
Pan.

C'mon Pan, just drop a $20 bill into an envelope. You don't want to know
what it takes to make something like this tax deductible. Takes almost
a year to get a number from the Feds and most states won't cut you any
slack until you get the Fed #.

Well, I quess it was plainly obviouse to me that I was gonna get flack
as soon as I hit the "send" key.
It's no counterfeit letter.
To answer your questions about where the various parts of our anatomy
are, will also not sit well with others. But ,I'll give it a whirl.
Everything is located in the same places as everybody elses.
I don't know Eddie, nor anybody else in this newsgroup. I never shook
hands or had a drink with any of you except virtualy. I just don't go
around sending money to people I don't know on the Usenet. It doen't
bother me if anyone thinks of me as "pussy whipped" or not,for I still
applaud my wifes keen business sence.
Sunshine was kind enough to send me a nice letter in return. Possibly
understanding my plight? I don't know. But she advised me to consider a
few things, and I will most definitely check into it. Allen also
mentioned some similar thoughts too regarding this.
I've never been good at trying to think with my heart, and I don't plan
to start now. There are indeed other specialized organs that I need to
use for that, and even that needs a little fine tuning as you are all
aware.
So with that in mind,I would like to indeed wish Eddie the best of
luck and health, and again congratulate all those (Sunshine,Ann) and the
rest who are doing as much as you are doing, for whom must be a truely
remarkable friend.
And sorry Mr.Stafford, if I do seem like the Cold hearted SOB I had
feared you would think of me as.

Hell, Panhead, your money, your business. I sometimes give what I can
afford to a worthy and non tax-exempt cause and here's why it makes
better sense than conventional charity to me. If I write a check for
$100 to a charity, the AdminScum are going to get the first 50%,
minimum. I get a 28% tax break, so I spent $72, and somebody who
needs a hand gets $50 much later, after it dribbles through the
bureaucracy.
If I just find that guy, and give him $50 outta my pocket, I have a
net savings of $22, he gets the money *now*, and I perform the added
civic function of helping to starve a bureaucrat (hopefully before it
breeds). But that's my money, and my business.
Besides, didn't I notice that you neatly sidestepped the ol' lady and
put a set of heads on the auction block? Not to embarrass you or
anything, but I suspect you *do* have a good heart in there. You're
just doing it your own way.

If the proceeds of the sale of the motorcycle in question goes to the
cause,Sure. I'll paint lawnmowers.
But no flames or candies. Stock type paint.

Nope, I placed *my* head on the _chopping_ block.

Hey Pan - Give me an opening bid and I'll add it to the Web page!

Ok, here's what I can do. This is gonna get rather involved so pay
attention.
Let's say somebody has a "perfect" set of tin they want painted.
What I mean by "perfect" is, the tin has to be sound (no dents, and
the gas tank has been preasure tested and coated inside(if they want
that) BEFORE painting gets done)
If the tank leaks an destroys the paint...sorry dude.
Body work costs, and it consumes a LOT of time.... so;
NO Aftermarket "new" tin! These pieces can only be described as
horrible at best. I have found that the *best* from any of these
companies I have seen, usually needs about about ten hours of prep just
to make them worth painting. The big fat fendered FLH type land yaught
fenders are the worst! Just the tanks (while OK) need about three hours
of body work.
FXR front and sportbob type rears are not quite so bad.
No biggy. Let us(me) talk about just paint for now.
Let's say I have a wonderful set of tin, and the customer wants a
basic Black or white, or any single stage pastel/solid color.
I can do this quite easily (and quickly) for about $300.00 US.
With this, I give a life time guarantee against any kind of paint
failure to the orginal owner/purchaser of my "service".
Metallics and pearls type things, and things we need or want
clear-coated will add about another 50 bucks..... tops.
Candies? add 100.
Want a nice simple flame job on it? Add 150.00 to the basic price.
It could on an on... but I won't here. (your welcome)
I will only do one of these jobs of course, and the person who wants
to donate these funds has to show rather remarkable proof that the funds
in question do indeed go to Eddie. ( Iam sure that Sunshine will let me
know...I'll work out the details...I hope)
The buyer of said painting services will also consider the down time
needed for shipping (which normally needs an extra week, so as the paint
doesn't mark when but into a box) and will consume any and all
shipping/insurance costs his/her self.
I can now say I can donate a "typical" 3 to 4 hunert buck paint job
in the name of the foundation for Eddie.
Confirmation of funds will be HIGHLY scrutinized.
Please write back for further info.

(maybe I should switch to sewing!)
Here's the drill.
I am getting used to my new "server" at the moment.
I am in the midst of replying to this same question as we speak.
(opening up a new server just opened up 1600(!!!) posts to me, so I have
to wade thru the old and useless stuff)
I think I can do this...the paint thing.....for Eddie.
I'm writing out the faqs/facts etc... and will be posted...
Stay tuned.
( yes I have a heart, I just can't remember where the fug I left it)
If we pay extra, I can paint it so ugly even you won't want it.
(sorry for any misunderstandings I might have caused)
Just so's everybody knows, someone DID make a bid on the heads - Wayne
from Ontario bid $150.00 US! Check out the auction page for new updates,
and don't forget to bid!

Well, that's very kind of you also to say. Maybe you could add this:
Ultimately, what I would like to see is a Sportster kinda thang.
Even if the tin needs stripping and minor body work, I can do this
quickly, in a single color with (supplied)decals if wanted, or basic
two/three color flames ...also if wanted or desired.
I would really not like to at this time a ,say $400.00 discounted,
coupon price off some multi candy colored, pearled extravaganza, with
pictures of naked hooters and such. It will really take to much time
right now.
As luck(?) would have it, I have been contacted by some gentleman in
Northern NJ about painting a fleet of...(are you ready?)...Lambrettas!
He does restorations on these things for museums and private
collectors, and has informed me that he has about 5 of these things ready
now, and about 10 more that are going to be ready for paint in the near
future. He said his last painter was takeing to long (Three months per
bike!) and was paying him about 1100 hunert per bike average.
This is good money folks!
SO, I would like to make that offer still stand, but lets keep it
small and simple.
C'mon Sporty Owners!

In regards to business this is wise. In regard to life....it's not the way
I want my ship to run.
I don't know Eddie from adam. I do plan on sending what I can afford
with the full knowledge that this could be a scam (sorry sunshine not
shooting at you). The way I see it is like this. If I can afford it and have a
good idea that it's not a scam (I know most of these people) then I go for it.
If I get burnt I still was doing my part to help and God help the sorry SOB
that tried to pull it off.
Besides, if ya can't trust bikers who can you trust?

I think it's as good a place as any. I understand the concern you
mentioned tho.
If folks don't know the metal (or plastic) I am made of I feel they
have no other way of knowing whether I am worth doing any kind of future
business with. I am one those people/things you either love or hate
unfortunatly,...there is no middle ground.

This is no problem with me. I am only the Captain of my own boat.
I don't want, nor would I expect to be in control of anothers ship when
they go sailing up the river of swill....without an oar.
I still think I asked a semi wise question....business wise.
How people interpret it into there personal lives tho.... up to them.

Twas my point! I never really deep down inside thought it was a scam,by
ANY means. I've been well aware of "Eddie" ever since I first found
Sunshines page.
But due to rather eloquent articulation of English-speak, (not) I
kind-a figured I said it wrong in my post regarding this entire matter.
Oh well.
Forgiveness would be devine, but I am not really counting on it.
> Besides, if ya can't trust bikers who can you trust?
I trust no "biker" just because they are one. However, I do trust
anybody that has shown themselves to be trustworthy.Biker or not.
Hell, I didn't trust my "wife" until she was mine-all-mine. We now have
a rather swell understanding of how trust can be a true love kinda
thing. We trust (and love) each other exceedingly well.

I call this "getting to know someone from the inside out" and
the process assumes honesty from all parties concerned, but
even then, you can usually tell who's trying to pretend they're
something that they're not.
This process completely bypasses some usual social customs that
we're used to, like first impressions based on looks. For a
society that's as obsessed with looks as we are, this is a
pretty radical change.
After meeting people at MITM and the Buck & Gator, I'd have to
say that you can almost always tell that someone who frequents
the rmh vb&g already believes that words are important. This
fact alone separates these people from many others.
