Hard to remember all the bikes we've owned over the years so i made a
list.

It all started with an indian mini bike when i was 11 yr's old
Moved up to a QA50 at 12
Got my first 125 at 15 (73 elsenore) It was the first bike to toss me
off at high speed
Got the only bike i ever purchased brand new at age 18, 76- SX650
yamaha street bike (still the only bike i ever went into debt on)
Then shit hit the fan at age 20 (got married the first time)
Took me 2 1/2 years to get that fixed!
Remarried at 25 but this time i broke her in with the bikes by going
dirt biking on my wedding day. The only thing she asked was that i
didn't show up with Raccoon eyes for the wedding pictures.
Been married to her for 20 years now so i guess it worked.
Since then i have had
79 it425
84 CR500 (only bike to put me in the hospital)
and my currant 93 WR250 for the dirt
And for extra cash i have purchased
83 CX650 custom Honda Paid 500, sold for 1200
84 SX650 Yamaha Paid 500, sold for 800 (before i even got a chance
to ride it.
86 Virago 500 Paid 150, sold for 600
85 Nighthawk 650? paid 500 sold for 800
I had 2 accidents with cars in my street bike years and both times
the car won, so i don't ride on the street anymore.

So what's your story? What bikes have you owned?

MurMan
93 WR250 currently but not my last.

1st Bike: 1987 YSR 50 bought used in late '87 @ age 29 - never ridden before,
took MFS and ERC on it. :-).

2nd Bike: 1989 FZ600 bought old-new leftover late in 1990.
Rode hard put away wet thrown down the road. First crashe(s): Skyline twice,
and Page Mill Rd., Hwy 9 and Mines Road once each also. Maybe more I forget.
Replaced battery, stator, battery, stator, motor, ALL the plastic (some more
than once)...etc.

3rd Bike: '93 XR650L bought with 3k on it in '94 - Hollister first near-death
off-road experience, then many more. Replaced tank, added link, did 20K +/-
broken Odo.

4th Bike: '97 XR400R bought used late in '97 from old-time Checkers Club SoCal
racer in Crestline. First near-death Enduro experience, first frozen Spodefest
in Oregon, first suspension work.

5th Bike: '97KTM300 MX/C bought used in 2000. First 2-stroke near-death Enduro
experience. :-)

6th concurrent two-up bike, seldom ever ridden '95 CB1000 "Big One" bought used
in '99? Dang I forget, FOR SALE.

1st. MR50 unknown year 12 yrs old, rode it without an air cleaner till
it quit.( child of single mother who hated motorcycles) traded it for

2. Z-50 unknown year, rode it to near death, traded for bike again.

3. XR-75 unknown year, totaled by friend while riding fire roads. I
had front row seat for XR-75 versus TT-500 head on collision, knocking
both riders unconscious, there I was 13 yrs old, standing over these
guys wondering what to do next.

4. 83 YZ125 paid $350 for in '87 brought it home in several milk
crates, blew it up twice, knocked myself out, broken wrist etc. I
really liked that bike at the time, then it got stolen while I was at
work.

5. 91 DR 650, not a bad bike for the street, dirt was another story,
sent me over the bars on the smallest of jumps, what was I doing
trying to jump a DR650? Sold it right when I got home from the
hospital. I don't miss that bike.

6. '00 YZ250 Utter satisfaction in riding, sure I see lots of trick 4
strokers out there on the trail, but that YZ is near perfection for
me, over 30 rides on it since I bought it last year for $3500 nearly
new, and I have yet to dump it, I swear if you do anything the least
bit right, it will do the rest. I want to be buried with it.

1) Home made (not MY home) minibike with a 3 HP Briggs and Stratton with
a manual windup starter rope (pulley spun wildly right next to your
right ankle), bought used in 4th grade, 1967.
2) Genuine store bought JC Penneys Mickey Bike (tm), 3 HP Briggs with a
recoil starter and Ape Hanger handlebars (replaced with lower stingray
bicycle bars for race ready ergonomics), bought used in 5th grade, 1969.
2.5) Brother bought a Hodaka Ace 90, not my bike but he taught me to
ride a real motorcycle on it circa 1970.
3) 1970 Suzuki TS90J Honcho rotary valve 2 stroke, the one with the 5
speed, bought used in 8th grade, 1972.
4) 1972 Yamaha DT-2MX, bought used in freshman year, 1973.
5) 1970 CZ250, traded for the Yamaha straight across. The CZ had a
complete (less wheels) second parts bike, too. Who knows what the guy I
traded was thinking, the Yamaha was fast but handled like a screen door
in a high wind. It blew up at the first race we went to together after
the trade. The CZ was a great bike, and reliable as a claw hammer after
I replaced the stock PAL points ignition with a dual plug Femsa
electronic unit.
6) 1976 Suzuki RM250, bought used in 1977 from a Suzuki supported local
pro. Absolutely fabulous motorcycle.
7) 1979 CanAm 250 MX-5, bought new in '79 with proceeds of dubious
business venture (statute of limitations has long since expired).
Modified the rear suspension to laid down Fox Airshox. A good, solid,
sadly underrated motorcycle. Pretty damn fast, too. The first time I met
my wife was the day I brought this bike home from the dealer; her first
view of me was as I pushed the bike through the front door of her
boyfriend's house (my buddy was his roommate), where we set it on a
stand and admired it for hours. She can never say she didn't know what
she was getting into <vbg>.
8) 1988 ATK 250, first 2 stroke model ATK made (mine was the first in
Washington State), bought new at the end of '87. I loved this bike.
Under 215 pounds wet without gas in enduro trim. Took me from C class to
A class in 2 seasons. Bought after finishing college and getting a real
job.
9) 1995 KTM 300E/XC. Bought new in '95 after the ATK blew the crank and
most of the rest of it was so worn the repair bill rivaled the cost of a
new bike. The KTM is an awesome off road bike, and isn't too shabby
playing on an MX track. Still riding it now, but it's age is starting to
show.
10) 1994 KTM 50SX, bought used in '95. Both kids learned to ride at age
4 on this little beauty, which was the non-race version that KTM sold
back then (the SX-R was the race bike).
11) 1974 (?) Maico 450 radial. Bought it from a friend's neighbor for
$25 in 1997. It's never run since I bought it, but it's compete except
for the carb (which I have from other sources). Someday this childhood
dream will get restored. I would have paid that much for just the head
to sit on a shelf and look at it.
12) 1999 Yamaha PW80. Bought new in '98 when my daughter outgrew the
little KTM and the kids were starting to fight over the 50 anyway. My
son, at age 6, was run over on this bike by our next door neighbor in
his sand rail, leaving Scott with a compound fracture of the right femur
and a strong aversion to riding anywhere that cars are driving too.
13) 2000 Yamaha TT-R90. Bought new in '99 when my son outgrew the 50,
and the kids were starting to fight over the PW80. For people riding
woods and mountain trails with their kids, I can't recommend this bike
enough. The motor rocks for the tight nasty stuff, smooth and torquey.
Great package.
14) 2001 Yamaha TT-R125L. Bought new in '00 when my daughter outgrew the
PW80. This bike will never leave my family, it's WAY too much fun. Scott
outgrew the TT-R90 at the end of last year and basically took over this
bike, which spent too much time sitting because his sister's interest
was low. That's working fine for me right now, when they start fighting
over it, we'll go shopping for something else. I wish I could have
bought Kali's 125L when she was selling it, Scott will be needing the
suspension upgrades before too much longer.
15) 1977 Yamaha DT175, bought very used in '00 to build a short, mellow
bike for my wife. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.
16) 1974(?) Honda MR50, given to me by my brother last year. It's old
and thrashed, but like the Maico, will one day be restored to it's full
glory.

I sold the PW80 to buy the TT-R125L. The TT-R90 will be getting sold
sometime soon to finance the next bike for Scott so Lorena can get her
125L back. Of all of the other bikes listed, the only ones that I don't
still have are the DT-2MX that I traded for the CZ, and the CZ that I
sold to buy the RM. I really regret getting rid of those bikes,
especially the CZ. One day, when I win the lottery or retire or
something, they will all get the restoration treatment. I love them all.

in the driveway bending the shifter. Never rode it again.
- 70-something Honda Trial 55 ... My dad bought this one for me from my

- 70-something Honda SL100 ... I got taken on this POS. The guy I bought it

- 78 Suzuki RM250 ... I did a bunch of trading with a buddy of mine and
ended up with this bike. It was a great bike and I started to really learn

- 79 Yamaha XS1100 ... Big and powerful. Tons of torque. Damned near hurt

Making this list reminded me of listing girlfriends, something that I did a
long time ago.
Overall, there were more bikes, and they were responsible for more acute
physical pain.
However, the girlfriends were ahead in terms of mental anguish and general
havoc on your life.
Since then, I have married a nearly-perfect woman, and can concentrate on
the bikes without distraction.

66 Honda CT90 Trail, Red, with the big sprocket that bolted over then small
one, before they had a two speed add on the the auto 4. Actually jumped this
bike 5 to 6 feet regularly without injuries. Father bought this bike new in
67 for hunting in West Texas.
84 Suzuki RM80, great bike, first two stroke, went through 3 top ends before
I learned to warm up a liquid-cooled bike and properly mix oil and gas.
64 Honda CT90 Trail, this one was yellow, from an auction of a bankrupt
Suzuki dealer.
78 Suzuki TS100, another great bike, oil injected two stroke air cooled,
street legal enduro, fouled many plugs.
87 Yamaha YSR50, Loved this bike, had 86 YZ80 motor, Stereo built into the
fairing with 50 watt car stereo amp, 6 to 12v voltage inverter, used a
waterproof walkman, JBL 3.5 inch speakers, first speeding warning(78 mph in
a 25 zone, cop laughed at stereo system and shook my hand).
87 Honda 250 elite scooter, wonderfull belt drive torque converter tranny,
used rear end for drag bike circa 1992, 7.80 in 1/8 mile at 92 mph.
82 Yamaha XJ750 Seca, very nice motorcycle, kicked out #2 rod at 11,000 rpm
110 mph, alot of fun
84 Kawasaki KXT250 Tecate, THE WIDOWMAKER THREEWHEELER, VERY DANGEROUS,
CAUTION, DO NOT INSTALL 85 KX500 MOTOR AND LET BUDDY RIDE NEAR RAILROAD
TIES, watercooled kx250 motored threewheeler with frt/rear discs and full
suspension, very fast, also fouled many plugs, stator ended up frying out so
used the ignition off the XJ750 with a homemade startor to magnetic pickup
adapter plate, with a 12v garden tractor battery in the front fender, no
more fouled plugs...
85 Kawasaki KXT 250 parts for above....
85 Kawasaki KX80, great jumper, could literally fly 30 feet on this bike,
and land straight no matter what.
83 Yamaha RX50 Special, was brother in laws, now sitting under tarp, starts
first kick, like new, 1800 miles
83 Honda ATC200E, Great threewheeler, currently in use as tow truck for drag
truck and wife rides it around neighborhood.
84 Suzuxi RM250, Great bike, still runs great on first kick, very fast, but
needs better shocks.
Great post, makes me think of what i want next.......

Fairly short list:

Late 60's generic, solid frame minibike. 5HP Tecumseh engine. Broken
brake cable - replaced it with a "strong" piece of string folded over
several times tied between the footpeg and the pretty useless rear
drum brake.

1970 (?) Suzuki TS50 - My friends had Honda 50s and this would smoke
them. 5 speed manual trans. Ended up bolting on Suzuki's "hop-up"
kit which effectively made it the pipiest bike on the planet. Nothing
at all until around 10,000 rpms then a quick burst up to whatever it
made. Unsilenced Noisy. Gave it to my brother.

1972 Suzuki TS185 - rode the hell out of this one for several years.
Lived in northern VA at the time and could get just about anywhere in
Fairfax County using trails. I imagine these days are long gone. My
folks sold it while I was away at college in the late 70s. Still have
an exhaust scar to remind me of it.

nothing for a zillion years.

2000 Yamaha TT-R90 - got this for my 9 year old son who had been
wanting it for a year or two. The intention was to teach him how to
ride and then get one for myself. He picked up on it pretty quick.

1994 Husaberg FE350 - got this a few months after I got my son's 90.
Bikes had changed a bit since the early-mid 70s. This is my current
bike and other than having to replace a stator early on, it's had no
problems at all. Other than that one time the front end washed out in
the mud, but I blame the bike. I would have known better.

2002 Yamaha TT-R125L - My son outgrew the 90 and it was time to move
up. Interest hasn't waned a bit and I'd love to see him stick with
this. Makes me wish we'd had bikes like this when I was 11. Also
makes me glad he doesn;t have to ride a POS "minibike" with no brakes.

Great post.

Well when I was 7th grade I got my first bike. It was a Suzuki 50 of
some kind. I believe from the 70's. It was somewhere between a dirt
bike and a street bike. I think it was more street then dirt.

Sell the Suzuki. Then when I was 14 I bought a 82'? KDX 175. My
first big bike. That thing was a tank but I always had a lot of fun
on it!

Sell the KDX. At 15 I bought an 84' KX125. I love that bike. Sold
it and bought my girlfriend a gold ring. Idiot!

10 years later....

My friend and I decide 10 years is enough. I buy an 00' YZ250 and my
friend buys a 99' CR250. Probably not a good idea. This bike beats
the crap out me and sends me to the hospital twice. I haven't had a
two stroke since.

My friend buys a 01' YZ426. I ride it and love the four stroke! I
sell my 2-stroke to buy a 01'YZ250F. My 2-stroke was beat bad from me
crashing so often!

Purchase an 00 XR250 for my wife. She promptly brakes her ankle on
it. Not good.

Time to buy a street bike. I purchase a 00' Honda Superhawk. Good
bike.

Sell my YZ 250F for a 2002 KTM 400SX. My current dirt bike. I love
that thing!

Sell my Superhawk.

Just purchased a 2002 Yamaha R6.

By this time my wife has about had enough with my motorcycle madness.
The guy at the Yamaha dealership asks me how long I will keep the R6.
To which my wife replies, "Forever." Looks like I might not be
getting another bike for a long time. Hey hun, a cruiser would be
nice to have also......

I started thinking about this and it's kinda embarrassing to think how
many I have had in such a short time. When I was 9 I had a Late 1970's
Honda 80 something or other, silver tank on it, sure wish I knew what
it was. At 12 I had a yellow Yamaha 225 automatic clutch 3 wheeler
that I rode for a year around the ranch, but my passion back then was
horses.

I bought my first bike for myself in October 2000, since then I have
had all these:

1988 Honda Hawk GT650 - sits in the garage cause I am too damn lazy to
get my license and insure it (gotta do that since the weather is so
awesome)

2000 TTR225 - rode it twice then sold it!

2001 TTR125L - modified the hell out of it, turned it into a YZ150F
then sold it after a year of bliss

1998 KTM200mxc - rode it, had a blast for a while, finished my first
enduro, learned to ride a 2 stroke sold it after only 3 months when I
rode a Gas Gas!

1999 Gas Gas EC200 - On it's way!

Wow, you guys and gals can remember the years and models of all those
bikes....amazing!

1964 Honda CB160, 1st real bike, purchased used, sometime in the last 60's.
Worked a whole summer vacation to pay for it. Big live lesson.

196? Honda C?305 scrambler, purchased used in early 70's, cut the rear of
exhaust pipe off, so it'd sound kewl. Got ticket for excessive noise.
Accident with car, swore off street bike. One firm rules with my kids: No
street bikes, ever!

Various 1980s Yamaha DT 175 and RT180's.

Various late 80' and early 90's KDX 200s

Above Yamaha's and KDX's used mostly for trail riding during twice annual,
dirt bike vacations, to Rocky Mountian States.

1994? Honda XRL650. Purchased new Anchorage Alaska, road it around Alaska,
and Yukon for 3 weeks, ship it back home and traded it on two of the above
KDXers.

Current bikes
Two 1996 KX250. Thought the KXs would be better than the KDXs for trail
riding, mixed results.

1994 KDX200.

Most my local riding buds, got old and gave it up, so it's hard to arrange
trips out west, anymore. No plans to buy new bikes 'cause I don't ride
enough now...... I'm a Loser...

Great thread!

Age 9, Christmas 1968, Fox 3hp Doodle Bug mini bike, (I want it back!
Where can I find one? Reward)

Age 12, Pacesetter three wheeler, (what a monstrosity)

Age 13, Honda SL100 1973, new, John Deere green, (a million miles were
put on this one)

Age 15, 1973 Honda CR250 Elsinore, this one kept me off the streets and
out of trouble. I threw ten thousand hay bales to earn it.

Age 16, Maico 450, Just what a 16 year old really needs. (I still have
and race this bike, I most likely will have it buried with me) I keep
it perfect, always. I refused to sell it even when I could only afford
to eat once a day. It is the only bike I talk to like it knows what I
am saying.

Age 20, 1978 Kawasaki KZ650SR, new, still have this one too. Nice
little bike to tool around town on.

Age 25, 1973 CZ 250, a friend gave it to me and I hope to restore it
some day into a casual AHRMA motocrosser. It only has about 10-15
original hours on it.

Bikes I still want;
1969-71 Honda Z50 mini trail (I would have killed mercilessly for one of
these back then)
1970-73 Honda CT70 (all my friends had one and I didn't)
1973-74 Trials bike for AHRMA
2002 CR250 or CR450F (can't get this craziness out of my head) My Maico
is rough to ride at my age with it's 4" of travel. A new bike with
plush suspension should keep me going for another 30 years.

Racing that IT was a riot! I remember the strange looks I got from other
riders. My chain kept falling off! I wore my Alpinestars, jeans and a T
shirt. Funny thing is I was doing pretty good until I fouled the plug in the
water hole! I'd do it all again...
I think that bike is still alive somewhere not far from here...

I was very impressed with the list of bike other RMD'ers have and had owned
in the past!

Past:
1965? Honda 305 Dream
1967? BSA 650

San Francisco, we had some great places to ride there 30+ years ago.
Also note:
About 1/2 of the current bikes and 3 of the previously owned bikes were
purchased by my Son, but you know, the what's mine is his and his is
mine thing.

Here is my story:

Mini Bike - Dad had a Bridgestone. I had a lawn mower motor!
'81 Honda CR 125 - How does a clutch work again?! WFO works too! ;-)
'83 Yamaha IT 175 - A little advantage was nice against my friends' 125s.
None - Career, marriage, & kids were the focus for a while.
'91 KTM 300 EXC - Time to give myself a little fun!
'01 KTM 250 EXC - How much maintenance do these things require?!

It has been a blast and I hope there are many more memories ahead!

Ride safe!

I am intrigued with the thought of owning a 90's KDX 250. How did you like
the bike? IF you were in 1995 again would you have purchased the bike
again.

What type of terrian do you ride in?

Here's my list:

'86 Suzuki SP 200 hea, it was a good starter bike. had it a yr.
'84 Suzuki PE 175, took the lights off to race it mx, bad idea.
'86 Yamaha YZ 125, bought it for $600.00 in a box, in pieces
'90 Honda CR 125, the worst suspension I've ever ridden.
Had it 2+ yrs; then a 3yr. layoff due to injuries, see above.
'92 Kawasaki KX 250 had Eric port it, still love that motor.
'98 Suzuki RM 250 w/ bunch of parts on it.
'03 Suzuki RM 250? I hope! Then again monkeys could fly out of my butt
too.

6 bikes in 16yrs., not bad.

Minibike with rope pull when young.
Built ramps out of bricks and plywood and jumped it til it broke.

'87 Yamaha SRX250-single cylinder air
cooled 250-but it had a custom made Bub
pipe and would kick ass on Cynthia's and
Wendy's SRX250's! Had my first street
crash on Pinehurst. Taught me cornering
speed. $2,350 brand new out the door.

`87 FZ600-got pulled over at gunpoint on the way to DMV to register it
`cuz the guy who sold it to me ran a stolen bike ring.
(Bad karma-but no injuries) Only one
100+mph ticket.

`89 GSXR750-inherited it from a very good friend that died at 27 from a
brain tumor. Will probably never sell it, even
tho it's a handful for me and has a crappy
short-stroke motor. It's a blast in Death Valley and Nevada, tho. Broken
kneecap.

`84 CR80-my life began when I bought this bike. Overheard a big scary
biker offering it for $200 to the mechanic at the Honda shop where I
worked. I high-jumped the counter and picked it up after work. Life has
never been the same.
Lots of crashes, rode my first family enduro's on it, damn near cried
when I sold it 2 years later for $800. Huge dent in leg from
handlebars-still there after all these years.

`86 Ninja 250-was a dog but fun in a "throw it around-who cares if I
crash it?"
sorta way.

`87 CR125-Oh,man...lots of fun but the headhsake nearly killed me.
Bought it for $1200, rode it for 7 years, sold it for $1100.

`97 CR125-Love this bike but it has a thirst for my blood. Torn ACL and
MCL, broken ribs, broken wrist, broken ankle, 2 severe concussions, 2
seperated shoulders. Very high thrill factor, though!

`90 FZR600/400-A thing of beauty. It was built for me by the guys that
owned the race team Eric rode for. Aluminum Delta Box frame with a 600
motor and front end. PM brakes on front, Brembo's on rear
(shitty in traffic, great for scrubbing off speed in high-speed
sweepers) Fox shock, steering damper, Japanese-spec flush-mount
turnsignals, frame and wheels powder-coated black, set up just for me. I
love this machine and have no desire for anything else...except maybe a
new R6. Never gone down on it, though I don't know why...

`01 WR250F-What can I say? Love/hate relationship with this machine.
Love it when I'm riding it, hate it when I'm picking it up and looking
at all the broken parts...
The motor rips!

`87 Honda Hurricane-Eric's old racebike-my commuter for a few years.
Widened wheels, 1/4 turn throttle, not a shred of plastic that isn't
plastic-welded, zip-tied or just plain missing. Bullet-proof. Everyone
that's ever ridden it has crashed it (including me) and it runs great!
Rode it as fast as it would go down HWY 395 and for that I will be
eternally grateful. No injuries and only one 100+mph, wreckless driving,
exhibition of speed, evading a police officer, unsafe lane change ticket.

Eric's bikes
`02 WR426 (current)
`97 CR250 (current)
`92 RM125 (POS money pit)
`85 KX125
`83 CR250 with a VFR750 radiator
strapped to the front # plate (I was embarrased to ride with him)
`83 GS550 Superbike (racebike-he won't let me ride it on the street)
`87 Honda Hurricane (2-see above)
`77 Husky 390 (handlebar-sky-handlebar)
`72 Kawasaki G5? 100cc (fisrt bike)
`79 CBX1100 (2nd bike 2 months later-can't believe he's alive)

Other bikes in my garage that I rode semi-regularly...thanks to living
with an
independantly wealthy trust fund baby...

`86 SRX600
`86 XT350 (first real off-road experience for me)
`86 Ninja 600
KX125
KDX200 (first 2-stroke I ever rode)
Montessa Cota
Ducati Diana 250
`89 RMX250 (I thought I was dead...)
`89 Katana 750

Tami-
I think I need a few more bikes...

I got into it late...

1st was a 1978 Yamaha DT250 (old as me!) in "trail bike"
condition-i.e. no lights, etc. OK but it was a 2 stroke ;) and I'm
mostly concerned with
trail riding

2nd and current is a 1993 Honda XR250R-sweet! and everything the
Yamaha wasn't LOL-4 stroke, hydraulic disk front and rear, modern
suspension, you get the idea
but...still as heavy as the old Yamaha.

The rest of y'all have impressive lists. Get back to me when I'm 45
;)
