I found myself an MX visor with fairly wide-spaced side mounting
points, and a far-back center mounting point (went to the bike shop,
saw what looked like it'd work, ordered it on the 'net). I epoxied
some nylon nuts to the appropriate places and bolted it up with nylon
hardware.
The nuts are tall enough that the shield will go under it, so it opens
to 1 notch less than full- plenty enough to get my glasses on. There
is also enough space between the visor and the helmet that air doesn't
build up. I was out today, went about 75 at one point, and I never
felt a lot of pull/drag from the visor.
The nuts are completely hidden by the visor, so there's almost no
frankenstein factor. It held up through some brush-busting, I'm sure
I'll have a little OTE that'll show just how strong the JB weld is. My
guess, the nylon'll break first.
It was soooo nice to have a visor to block the sun as my full-face
fogged up as I practiced picking the L up off the ice a few times
today. No snow, just a few ice patches on the trails. Didn't really
need screws in the tires, but screws in my boots would have helped a
lot.

You da man, Dave. Got yer long johns on? I went fly-fishing today in Deckers.
50° and T-Shirts. I'm really thinking of you guys. BTW, nice goin w/ the
visor/full-face thing. Now, if you'd only get rid of the bomber jacket, you'd
LOOK like a dirtbiker...not that you need to. Your riding speaks volumes...

There is a new KBC Super Motard and "snow" helmet, which retails for
$199, that comes with a MX visor, and also a full ratcheting face
sheild. Sadly, they won't both work at the same time. It is an
either/or deal.

Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but I bought an enduro jacket. Still only
the workboots, though. As cash allows I'll get more stuff, but I know
that a lot of what I do is because of how much I can move around on
the bike. How restrictive are bike boots, and who makes ones with good
tread (as opposed to a slick bottom for sliding)?
It was about 20degrees, had my long-johns, jeans, and aerostitch.
It'll be interesting to see the terrain at WUDI- something different
from new england, or very similar?

Dave,
I currently am having a sale on O'Neal boots.$80 for the low cost
Elements, $99.95 for the ATV (work boot sole) boot, $135 for the M900,
and $200 for the Hardware boots.
Most sizes are in stock, here, but I will honor the prices on
"re-orders".

I also have a new red/black Acerbis Zoom2 Plus chest protector in
stock, that I will make a special deal on.

Moose just lowered their price on their XCR chest protectors. These
are the same as last year's M-1 protector, and Acerbis' older model
Zoom and Zoom Plus.

There are photos of Arkansas riding avaoilable on Jeb's server, but
those of the TrainRobbers trail area seem to be missing.

Thanks to jeb, these photos and pages are available from previous
years.
For some photos of Chadwick riding, look at:
http://home.att.net/~jejb/chainsaw_pics.html

White Rock Mtn pics from the Wudi2 ride (2nd year) :

Web page from two years ago:
http://pws.chartermi.net/~jejb/Wudi4/wudi4.html

A Wudi5 ride report:
http://pws.chartermi.net/~jejb/Wudi5/Wudi5_rr.html
This is for an area (White Rock Mtn) almost 200 miles north of this
year's Arkansas part of the ride (Train Robbers Trail, near Hot
Springs, AR).

This year's web site:
http://pws.chartermi.net/~jejb3/Wudi6/wudi6.html

The terrain at TrainRobbers trail is thickly wooded, with a wide
range of terrain conditions, ranging from sandy loam on relatively
flat ground, to mountainous climbs over rocky ground. There is
generally a lot of dirt among the rocks, on most, but not all, trails.

See if you can come down and ride with us. (Only 6 weeks away.)

Seems like a great idea. I replaced the narrow and rather worthless
aerodynamic visor on my Arai VXPro with the last of some from the old days
that the Arai Tech guy had laying around. Made all the difference. On my
street bike, I wear a Schuberth and late day west bound riding pretty much
sucks. You have nothing to duck behind. A face shield, the dark internal
visor and the windshield all seem to do their part in spreading out the
glare. I've taped a bar of electrical tape across the shield at eye brow
level... looks dumb but works. I'd like something more like you show in
the photo though. I'd think a longer peak would be nicer but it's a start.

Don't get the treaded bike boots. I bought MSR World Tour boots with the
hiking boot type sole. The treads grab the foot peg spikes and make it hard
to move your foot for shifting and braking. I was going to grind the sole
smooth, but 1 season and the boots started falling apart so fast I won't be
wearing much longer. Ack!

On the beggining, you will miss a lot of shifts and will walk on a
funny way. After some time, you'll get used to it and your boots will
get softer after break in. A trick some buddies do is soaking the boot
on a bucket of water one hour before the ride, but with freezing
temperature like yours, I'd rather not do it...

When I started riding, I used a pair of all leather hand made cowboy
boots, with a slick sole and a high heel. It was somewhat small for my
feet so I got a good deal on an used pair of motorcycle street riding
boots with hiking like sole pattern and I *hated* it! Went back to the
cowboy boots and then I got my mx boot, a Gaerne RX. It's a great
boot, but have overall low protection. Anyway, the slick sole is good,
because they allow your feet slide freely over the footpegs, with
hiking sole pattern, you have to raise your feet out of the peg. Also,
my Gaerne have a sole pattern like "barbs" on fish hooks, they slide
freely forward but locks when slided back and it's great on slippery
uphill terrains where I have to help the bike with both feet to keep
going...

ymmv....

Today, I don't see myself out on the dirt wearing anything than a pair
of mx boots, which I put next to the helmet on the "must have"
scale...

Ah yes... GMTA. You can send your royalty pmt to... :)

On the street, it looks like people live with crap dirt riders will have
no part of. I like my Schuberth on lots of levels but for just around
town, I'm getting one of those 3/4 helmets with the visor and go with sun
glasses. Even with that, the windscreen will be throwing a ton of glare
late in the day (why is it that people only have to travel *west* at
sunset?!:). Hoping for a secondary benefit in all this too.. air.

I'm coming down with Mr. Faison- I only have to travel 300 miles to
get to my carpool!
Will these prices still be in effect during WUDI, and might I be able
to try some of these boots on?
I really am looking for something with tread on the bottom, so the ATV
boots sound right. Are the ATV boots more flexible as well?
I'm a 8.5 wide, or maybe a 9 wide.
Actually, one foot is one and the other is the other... no wonder I'm
always going in circles!

That's what inspired me. I saw some euro write-ups of the Arai Tour-X,

At about $25us for the whole mod, I'd have lived with a slightly less
attractive result. For something I've done, with epoxy no less, it
came out better than I expected. I thought getting the visor to open
as much as I wanted was a long shot, but I kept getting the sun in my
eyes and that made it a gamble worth pursuing. The arai helmet this is
modeled after (I posted a thread about it awhile back, the Arai
Tour-X/ Arai XD) is about $300-400us. Not in my budget at the moment!

Like with any Moose/Thor/Parts Unlimited dealer, if it's in the
warehouse, I can get it.

On the web site, I try to feature specially priced items, as well as
specialty parts and items, and Gas Gas motorcycles, since I figured
that they might be harder to find for those riding in my niche of the
market.

I figured, maybe wrongly, that if I listed brands, people would know
that I could get anything of those brands.

Actually, I can get most anything available in the US. However,
because of shipping, volume involved, and some of the individual
brands' selling practices, I can't always get as good or better deal
than some of the higher volume dealers. Volume even figures into
shipping costs.

A few examples:
I don't sell Fox helmets, because I would have to keep 15 or more in
stock. I do, however, sell the clothing, riding gear, and protective
gear.

I can no longer sell Arai helmets, because I must first purchase a
stock of 12 helmets. The manufacturer doesn't want any Arai helmets
sold mail order. They want them all "tried on" for a perfect fit. This
is admirable, except for those riders who have been wearing Arai
helmets for a long time, and already know what fits them.

An example of using the system to advantage:
The "Three tire Dunlop knobby deal" I worked up.

We have spent the last 7 years becoming dealers for most of the
racing and off-road specialty companies in the US, so that we can
supply a customer whatever their needs. Some brands are available
from the "super-distributors" and many are available only from the
small outfits. We're not proud. We try to hook up with them all, as
long as a customer wants something.

individual supplier examples: Ohlins, PPS, FMF, RYP, Pro Circuit,
Langston Racing, E-Rider, FMF, No-Toil, Pro Moto Billet, Steahly, Zip
Ty, One Industries, Maier, Guts, Ceet, Trail Tech, Race Tech, Motion
Pro, Sprocket Specialists, Acerbis, Applied, BRP, Sidi (Motonation),
Cycra, Oxstar, Sinisalo-Garne, O'neal, Clark, IMS, Scotts Performance,
GP, Flatland Racing, WER, E-Line, Sealsavers, Summers Racing Products,
Extreme, LTR, Thumper, Buchannan, Pro Wheels, Emig Racing, Stavish
Billet, World Class, and other, even smaller suppliers. (although some
of the above list have offerings in the large distributors' catalogs,
they also make stuff thata the "big boys" don't stock.

examples of the "big boys": Tucker Rocky, Parts Unlimited, Marshalls,
Lockhart, Motorcycle Stuff, White Brothers, MTA, McDonald ATV, J&M,
J&L, NACS Racing, Western Power Sports, Southern, and others that I
can't remember the spelling on.

It's all good. It's like a "Quest for Parts".

ahahaha, Moose tryed to sell here, no way a company that have a moose

Just because moose, in portuguese (at least br pt) is "veado" which is

Moose wised and sells their products without any horn on it and the

They do not offer quite the toe and shin protection of an MX boot.
But they are still much better than a work or construction boot.
Jim, can you get these? I know Ryan Young products sells them.

Just a satisfied wear'r.

That sounds like an excellent compromise. Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff!
