Actually its for a 94 YZ 80. A wiseco pro-lite piston kit and an RK chain and
some new sprokcets.

My brother is best friends with the lead mechanic at Motorcycle Mall, and he
knows everyone else there. But, they are a rip off, and only give discounts to
there workers. I found a real good place thats mail order and hasnt taken more
than 3 days yet, its called Mr.X. He's in all dirt bike magizines.
Yet another good reason to support your "local" dealers, or that
dude at MX South. ;)

I've been severely bitten by them. NO THANKS!

Yeah me too!!!
The first order I placed when fine.
Next I ordered a front 755 tire a rear fender and number plate
backgrounds. When the box came they had charged me $40.00 for the
freight. I sent the stuff back and have not ordered from them since.
However, I did get a DID ERT chain from them for $49.00 before they
jerked me around.

If you'll hang out at the dealership, make friends with the employees,
and explain your mail order/money thoughts, many will give you discounts
to make the dealer's price *competitive* with mail order. I doubt it'll
be cheaper, but will the mail order guy be there on Saturday afternoon
when you have a race/ride on Sunday?
That being said, if you don't have a good dealer handy, give the
guys at DNA Racing and HiPer Sports a chance. I know the owners of
both and both are first rate racers and all around good guys.
Then there's that Jeff guy.... ;)

You dont know my local dealer obviosly. Motorcycle mal is the biggest
rip off ever! I get 10% discount, and for a base and head gasket for my
94 YZ 80, it came to $28

All I can say is your local dealer is a hell of lot better than mine.
Want a list of the stuff I've needed in the last five years that was
in stock? Here it goes:
head gasket.
Get all that? =:o
No kidding. In 3 years, and probably $400 worth of parts, that is the
one thing I needed and actually walked out the door with.
All the other gaskets I needed have had to be ordered, and I needed
them at the same time anyway.
No little emergency parts, like the snap ring I broke while replacing
wheel bearings, no hop-up parts, (unless you consider grips and
Cheng-Shin tubes hop-up parts).
I also ordered a water pump seal and bearing at the dealer, pointed it
out on the fiche to the happy 16 year old behind the counter when he
didn't know what part I needed, and still got a crank bearing 3 weeks
later when the order came in.
I really want to support the local shop, but I'm not going to get
screwed paying retail for parts that aren't in stock.
If he's gonna order them anyway, I might as well do it myself.
I might as well also say that I've had good luck with Chaparrall.
I had one backorder there, a Shoei FX2 ($149) that my fine local
dealer wanted $290 for. I recieved it a week late.
Just my experiences...

That's it I can't take any more I have to ad my 2cents. "Mr. X" is the
alias of a shop in my area, (Pontiac, MI), which I wil leave nameless to
avoid a libel action.
This place has piss poor attitude written all over it. It is staffed by
young punks who act as if they are doing you a favor by letting you buy
something from them. My problem is that they are really close to me so its
hard not to stop in when I need plugs or oil. However I think I may
finally have the willpower to stop patronizing this denizen of atrocious
customer service.
Recently I went in with my two young boys to look for kid's helmets, (more
on my kids riding later), I stood around while the clerk at the counter
helped people who came in after me and a couple of the *sshole punks b.s.ed
with each other behind the parts door. I'm not pushy by nature so after 10
minutes of no service I walked out, kids in tow, and have taken a vow of
non return.
Give your business to someone who appreciates it. Jeff@MXSouth gets my
vote.

Ditto. The Honda dealer closest to my house is zero for 15. Well,
1/2 for 15. They did have a manual for a '93 CR250 which was close
enough. I don't even bother anymore. Honda of Troy gets it here in
3 days, everytime and its cheaper even with shipping. Everytime I
went they would say "well we can order it," and my reply was "so
can I" I don't mind paying list if I can have it NOW. Fortunately
East Hanover Honda is only 30 minutes away and they stock all the "oh
sh*t" parts.

Same old story. I ordered stuff from them and didn't receive it in the
time frame they gave me when I ordered the stuff and so I called them
back.
"Gee, well....um, we haven't gotten them in yet.". The guy was a total
dork who didn't know his ......ok, you get the point.
With my discount at the dealer, I would rather patronize them. I can
help the parts guy look up stuff so I KNOW I am getting what I want.

1. Always check stock on the item you are ordering.
Even if they say that they will be getting an item in any day it
is no guarantee they will. Remember you are usually talking to an
order taker. They won't know what their suppliers shipping dates
are, and they are usualy wrong. And nothing will piss you off
quicker than ordering a pair of bars and grips and only receiving
the grips in the shipment. I've seen it happen.
If you can't get the answer you want, call some one else.
2. Find out the shipping date.
Any decent mail order company should be able to ship same day.
Most use UPS. Shipping times are five days for regular
shipping, three days for Blue Label. Obviously overnight shipping
is expensive and you'd better make sure it is in stock and
they ship same day if you want it to be cost effective.
If you can't get the answer you want, call some one else.
3. Confirm the price of the product and the shipping and handling.
Two different things here. The price of the shipping is one
thing. The "handling" is another. It is usually the price of the
box, packing material and probably the guy's wages that is
packing it.
Handling shouldn't be more than a couple of dollars.
Those two things will save you time and money and maybe a brain
hemorrhage when ordering by mail-order.
And, if they can't answer these two things, order somewhere else.

All excellent advice, and I'd do it - but I can get a lot of stuff locally
with some pretty good shops that aren't dealers. But I do need to get
some frame guards and some things that locally might not be available.
BTW, by your count of the TWO things, I think you burned check #3...
keith - xr400r: I wanna enduro, is there a D class to enter?
Yea. My Honda dealer doesn't stock much (if anything) but they can always
get the parts by Friday if you order them on Tuesday.
As far a Chaparral, they don't stock a lot of stuff in their catalog, but
they have always told me when something was not in stock, and backorders
have always arrived when they said they would.
On the other hand, the KTM dealer, H&H in Georgia, recently rebuilt my
engine, and THEY HAD EVERY SINGLE PART IN STOCK, plus some other parts that
I had them send with the engine such as cables, etc.
