Strange question, but I just got a strange bike. I bought 11 bikes today
for $65. Needless to say,
most are missing engines, have rusted rims, no seats, etc. They range from
an early 60's Honda 50
to a late 60's/early 70's Yamaha 360 Enduro that's nearly complete. There's
a 72 Kawasaki 250
Superlube MX thrown in there, along with two Honda 150 Dreams, and a
Slowdaka. The gambit
of bikes from a time when disc brakes weren't even an option.

So...on to my question. What the heck is this Yamaha 360 Enduro? I THINK I
have an RT-360,
but the whacked out part is the VIN starts with 446. What the heck's up
with that? I thought that
with Yamahas of this vintage the first few digits were the model number. I
was expecting to see an
RT or a DT or a SOMETHING, but NOT a 446! Hmmm.....

To give some detail, the bike's original color was a lighter metallic green.
The strange part is the
thing DOESN'T have side exhaust, but the exhaust of the MX, right there
under the seat. Again,
what the heck's up with that?!? I know....someone in the history of the
thing put an MX exhaust
on an Enduro. Well...that would be my first take too, but that takes me
back to this oddball 446
starting the serial number.

Anyone out there know ANYTHING about what I got? The oil tank says Enduro,
the exhaust
(to me anyhow) says MX, but the serial #'s throwing me for a loop. Since
the lights are hung on
it, I know I don't have an MX. Okay...so I have an Enduro. The icing on
the Enduro cake is it's
NOT silver. Wasn't every MX of that period silver? That's the way I
remember it, course I was
just a kid then. Guess I could call Yamaha, but I thought I'd throw it out
ot the group and see what
ya'll thought.

heaven on wheels...rub it in.

Bring the serial to the nearest Yammie shop.
They´ll prbbly be able to tell you exactly what it is.
If not...is it a bike for you or for trade?
If yours, why care what you should call it?
Replacement parts (if not found on the shitload of donorbikes you have)
might be obtained by bringing it to a dealer...

Check out this great listing of bikes:

I would guess you have a 1974.

You have a Yammaha RT1 360 , it was quite the machine in its day.About a 1974
model.
First time I rode one back 1981, I almost looped it on a test ride.
For its day it was a reliable, fairly fast torque monster that had good
handling.
If its in decent shape its worth a little time and $.
Have fun, Leland

It was about 74-75 and had power for its time.
Yamaha made it very reliable.
Were they not all Black ?

That's what I was going to say. The '74 was dark green with the pipe up
under the tank like the MX model. Want to sell?
