Sounds like a good deal if the bike runs ok. KDXs are very reliable and make
great trail bikes. Good from beginner to intermediate level. Advanced riders
will probably need to beef up the suspension. A aftermarket pipe like the FMF
will really wake up the power.

Enduro, & Trail Ride. depending on your riding ability and size you may want to
do a few things. I am the better part of 220lbs with gear on. I am on the
process of beefing up and revalving the suspension. A good Idea if you are a
bigger guy or a decent rider. Also if you want any torque an FMF pipe & silencer
makes a world of difference, it did for me. Also a boysen reed valve does a lot
for low to mid range. I have not got one myself but a member at my club, with
the same bike, swears by it. The bottom line these bikes are indestructible,
think how many of these do you see for sale used? If the bike is in good shape &
runs well, you can't go wrong.
Good Luck.

I have a '93 KDX, which is probably most like the one you have. I just got
it this year and have been very happy with it. I am about 200 lbs. so I
need to do the new springs/revalve thing on the forks but other then that
the bike has been flawless. Also, the older KDX's seem to hold their value
real well, so I don't think you'll go wrong if you don't like it and want to
resell it. As others have told you, the FMF pipe/silencer, and RAD valve
really "wake" the motor up. However, since I am just getting back into the
sport, I am leaving the motor stock (it has plenty of power for me right
now) until I get the suspension dialed in (or at least until I can sneak the
missing $$$ past the wife:-).
One last note: I know KDX's are known for there reliability, but don't let
that stop you from making a proper inspection of the bike before purchase.
I know one good source for an inspection guide is Eric Gore's "MOTOCROSS AND
OFF-ROAD MOTORCYCLE PERFORMANCE HANDBOOK". This book has a very good
section that details possible problems and their likely costs. Also, the
book has many other great sections, that make it a must have (IMHO).
Good luck at let us know how it turns out,
