Great News!

We're having a DIRT and Dual-Sport Clinic!! This will also be a Clear
Creek Fundraiser to fight the current lawsuit to close Clear Creek!!!!!

Expert riders Phil Douglas of Aftershocks, Joe Wytman of Joe Racer
Products and Kari Prager of Calif BMW/Triumph will be our guest
instructors. If you haven't experienced these guys, you'll be in for a
real treat. Those of you who came to last year's class with him will
know what I mean! ;-) It is no understatement that these guys love
dirt bike riding!

Kari Prager will be on hand to lead all the larger dual sport bike
riders and newer riders on the big bikes like the GSes, etc.

This DIRT and Dual-Sport Clinic a 2 part clinic held on two separate
days.

Friday evening will be a 1 1/2 hour talk followed by the actual ride
and coaching on Sunday November 6th at Clear Creek!

Friday night's workshop is a prerequisite to Sunday's ride and drills.

This clinic is for beginners, intermediate riders and advanced riders.
For our more experienced riders, Clear Creek offers plenty of
challenges!

More experienced ride leader volunteers are needed, so let me know if
you'd be willing to lead a group in the afternoon.

While Friday night's talk is not limited, Sunday's ride is limited to
the first 40 riders only.

Price: $20 donation to the Clear Creek Defence Fund for more info go

2. CLEAR CREEK - DRILLS

Transportation of bikes: See me Friday night if you need a ride to
Clear Creek or have room in your van, truck or trailor. Most larger
dual-sport bikes will have a great time riding down to Clear Creek!

Meeting times:

1. 6:30am-7:30am: Breakfast at Tres Pinos, Flap Jack's Resturant till
8am and caravan down to Clear Creek together.

2. 9:00 am-1pm: Clear Creek drills.

3. 1pm to ? is the trail ride. We will seperate into different groups
based on skill levels.

Be there in enough time to change into your dirt bike gear.

DIRECTIONS TO HOLLISTER AND Clear Creek

Go South on Hwy 101.

Exit Hwy 25 and take that all the way into Hollister. Hwy 25 will put
you onto the main drag of Hollister which is San Benito.

>From Hollister continue down the main street (San Benito) for 1/2 mile
and you'll see the signs for Hwy 25, just follow the signs (you'll make
a quick left and then a right a few blocks away) to Hwy 25.

Go South on Hwy 25, about 5 miles past Hollister, you'll come to Tres
Pinos where there is a small gas station and the resturant Flap Jacks.
>From there, go about 30 miles and you'll see Hwy 25 do a sharp downhill
right, you'll see a smaller road that goes straight. That's Coalinga
Road, so take that road.

On Coalinga Road and go 17 miles. You'll see a little brown sign on
your left that says: "Clear Creek-Bureau of Land Management".

Don't turn left there, continue on for about 4 miles and you'll see the
Salinas Ramblers property on your left, go thru the gate and you'll be
directed to where to go! It's pretty obvious, you'll see camping areas
there.

FORMAT:

This will be an all day event with 10 seperate topics or techniques
with it's
drills and trail ride.

It'll work like this:

At the Salinas Ramblers Motorcycle Club, next to Clear Creek, we'll do
each drill (which were discussed in detail on Friday night) one by one,
with a brief demonstration first, so you'll get a better feel for them.
We do this until we've done all ten drills! Then in the afternoon,
there will be ride leaders taking you to different parts of the park!

Topics:

1. BODY POSITION - where to put your body, weight distribution, foot
pegs, balance--sitting and standing
2. HANDLE BAR CONTROL: input only not bal, hanging
3. HOW TO BE LIGHT ON THE BIKE letting the bike do what it needs to do
and you just guiding it.
4. UP HILL techniques - The easy way and the hard way
5. DOWN HILL techniques - Body position, braking and steering.
6. TURNING in the dirt - use of the pegs to steer.
7. ACCELERATING: use of stomach muscles not handlebars, light pressure
on the bars - standing-use of knees to pinch tank
8. Off CAMBER situations - peg weighting and steering
9. HOW TO MAINTAIN TRACTION IN LOOSE, KNARLY NASTY PLACES:
SLIPPING that clutch - Do bikes have automatic transmissions?
DISCOVER "The magic of a two-stroke. '
10. Keeping that FOOT IN AND NOT OUT.
11. Last but not least: "THE TECHNIQUE" that I'll go over!
12. Advanced rider skills for Clear Creek!

BRING: Food, water, dirt bike or dp bike, BMW GSes are welcome, good
protective gear for the dirt. All bikes must legally registered with a
green
sticker or license plate.

3 WHO'S THIS CLINIC FOR?

It's geared for beginner, intermediate and even more advanced riders.
Special group for larger DP bikes.

Beginner riders will ride with the larger dual sport bikes as they have
to stay on the easier jeep roads. Intermediate and advanced riders must
be on dirt bikes with knobby tires. Advanced riders, please expect to
be highly entertained as we know some awesome trails for you and some
surprises! ;-)

As for type of bike: Any dirt (must have valid green/red sticker) or DP
(must
have valid registration and plate) bike.

You can bring your street bike, but it just may look like a dirt bike
by the end of the day! ;-)

Anyone is welcome to come to the evening "Dirt Riding Workshop-Talks
and Demonstrations" part of the clinic and is not limited in numbers,
however the practical "Dirt Ride Drills and Dirt Ride" part of the
clinic is limited to 40 riders.

4. WHAT TO BRING TO THE DIRT RIDE

(I'll have my mondo blue van there so you can stow your gear if you
rode down on your bike!)

A. Snacks, lunch and water.

B. Gear: Minimally have a good helmet, gloves, heavy boots, blue jeans
and a long sleeved shirt. Full dirt riding gear is optimal however:
Dirt helmet, goggles, chest protector, elbow guards, gloves, knee pads
and dirt boots.

C. Mechanical: bike in good order, knobbies will work best, however
dual-sport tires will work also. Street bike tires will provide a
unique experience! ;-)

D. Tools: You should bring at least a spare set of spark plugs.
