Okay, what's the difference between castor, bean, and synthetic oil? I've been using Motul synthetic and haven't had any problems, but I was reading somewhere (DR, MA)?? that many racers use Maxima 927 (I think its castor based), and that no racers use synthetic. Does anyone know the facts about 2-cycle oil? Is there any reason I shouldn't be using synthetic?

Thanx,
Mitch

The main thing I know is a castrol type does not help much with the water
cooled bikes. I use to use caster oil or CASTROL years ago in a 1976
Elsinore the bike ran so hot that caster was the only oil that wouldn't
break down an seeze the motor. Klotz was the worst oil for preventing
seezures then and because of that I never us synthetics now Just don't
know about them. I use synthetics in my XL600 with no problem.

Maxima 927 is used by many MX race teams. It burns extreemly clean
reducing plug fouling. In combination with 108+ octane race gas, you
can't get a cleaner, more protective mix. I've experimented with H1R
which worked great, and I was fairly happy with it, but Maxima 927 with
Unocal race fuel at a 32:1 ratio is much better.

I don't know the differences, but H1R and Motul 800t are very good
products. If you use either of these and don't have any fouling problems,
stick with them! If you race, make sure you run 32:1 with 108-112 octane.
If you don't race, 40:1 at least 100 octane.

All three are top quality products and will provide the best bottom end
protection of any other oils. If what you're using burns clean, stick
with it. If you have jetting and/or fouling problems, try Maxima 927!

I run Bell-Ray MC-1 in my TRX at a 50:1 ratio, and I'm very happy with
it. This oil seems to burn very clean, and I've never fouled a plug.
(I'm running a 165 main jet! (porting/reeds/compresion/pipe))

In article <3jl1sh$d...@mustang.smcvt.edu>,

I use Red-Line synthetic at 50:1. Never had a problem either.

By the way, does anyone else even know of Red Line oils? It seems I'm
the only one who has even heard of them.

Not the only one, Robert. Not all shops carry the line, but
mine does. RedLine also does some advertizing in the rags.
Everyone I've spoken to considers RedLine product to be
very good quality. I can't speak from experience though.

I run Bel-ray MC1 @ 42:1 at sea-level (miami) I race a (you won't believe
it!) 1984 RM125 in the 125 Beg class. I've been around MX for over 20yrs
and have never had a prob with bel-ray. The bike is piped, ported &
Boyesens. Runs great.

P.S. I win on the old goat.

It may not be clear to many others, but nobody's fooling me.
Here's a dude who's been racing for 25 years, runs the 125
Beg class, I can only assume this is Beginner class, and is
winning. No shit?! Why don't you race against somebody who
can give you a run instead of blowing past those who are,
"you won't believe it", BEGINNERS!!?

But hey, who said anything about following the rules, anyway?
