After spending about a trillion dollars at Chapparal the other day, I
stumbled upon the item some of you have been looking for. It is made
by (surprise) Acerbis, and is a square 1.5 gallon hard tank that
attaches to the top of the forks, where an MX numberplate would be. It
has a gas line, so it's not just an emergency tank that needs to be
removed so you can pour it into your main tank. It has a flat face, so
the numberplate can be re-attached to it. I recall it being under
$50.00 Call them. Looked like a good quality item.

I have one of these I'd be willing to sell for $25 + shipping. It is
yellow.

This is an auxilliary Acerbis tank. It is made in both .8 gallon
and 1.2 gallon sizes. Be careful mounting these on four stroke
that is either dry sump or has an oil cooler. You need to be careful
not to block the air to either the oil cooler or top tube of the
frame.

My buddies used to run these on XR350s down in baja and rig up a
bracket to attach the headlight to the front of the tank. I think
they used the .8 gallon variety of the tank. Looked pretty sano...

I have a 1.2 gallon tank in my garage that has never been used.
If anyone is interested in buying it, drop me a line.
