Might I suggest you contact Cycle Gear. They have a pretty good bead
on how to get some ponies out of your DR, if that's your goal. My
advice, Cycle Gear Air Box, a pipe, and a rejet. Don't waste your
money on the porting. The carb you currently have AFAIK is far
superior to the carbs of old so you prolly don't have to get it bored.
The 400 kit was pretty nice. I dropped a wad on the WB carb, porting,
400 kit, and a Muzzy. The whole thing was Ho-Hum until I put on the
CG Airbox. It really woke it up.

yes, I made the same mistake twice
Tom,
The most cost effective mods for your bike are (in order of listing):
1. suspension mods (I used Scotts Performance),( call me for details.)
2. Cycle Gear "Magic air Box" with exhaust replacement and carb modification
recommended by Cycle Gear.
You can go farther with the 400cc kit or the 435cc kit, the boxed swingarm,
RMX front end, excel rims, etc, but the first two will give you the most for
the money. Especially the first.

How is the spring supposed to affect the carb? Did you detect a difference
after installing it?

Or, you could buy a YZ400 and have it all, for less money. Like a VW
Beetle, you can drop a wad of cash on it and it will always be a DR.
Just my opinion, and after all the miles I suffered on the "Flexible
Flyer" of motorcycles, I'm entitled to it.

Trust me, the C-G air box is worth it. I pulled the screen, cut out
the top of the box, ran a Twin Air, and had a bored carb. The Air Box
made the bike come alive. One bad thing about it, it pushes out the
side panel on one side into an uncomfortable position. I had to
reshape the plate with a heat gun to keep it from wearing a hole in my
leg.
