That indicates that while the numbers won't be "released" to
telemarketers, they'll still be available. I still put mine and
everyone at work's phone on the list.
Putting my home number on the list cut down the sales calls from
~5-10/day to maybe 1/day.
Thanks for the pointer.
F*'em - I only turn mine on when I'm gonna make a call, you guys walk
around with it on all the time??? :-) Hell, any-damn-body could call
you any-damn-time?? That's what a home-answering machine is for.

I never answer the home phone between 8a and 9p. The cell phone has
caller ID. And an Ignore button.

What is the ignore button? Does it ignore them on future calls
too?

Nah. It's a cheap phone. I have to do it every time, but something
like that should be easy to build in.
1. The cell phone directory is a deal where you have to choose to be
on it. If you don't contact the directory provider and tell them to
put your cell number in the directory, your number won't be there.
2. Even if you do put your number in the directory, the provider is
SAYING the list won't be provided to anyone. The only way to get your
cell number is SUPPOSEDLY that a person calls the directory and gives
your name asking for your cell number.
2. If you put your cell number on the do not call list, your cell
number is now on a list available to "charities," for them to call you.
Before I cancelled my land line, I noticed that the hated phone
solicitors were now calling on behalf of various "charities."
Therefore, DON'T PUT YOUR NUMBER ON THE "DO NOT CALL" UNLESS YOU'RE
HAPPY GETTING SOLICITED BY "CHARTITIES." Talk about a non-solution.
Sure can tell it's a government program.
I hope I never forget a call from a solicitor for a "Police/Fireman's"
charity fund, to benefit the children of these folks killed on the job.
The first time they called I asked what % of the donated money finds
its way to those kids (always an interesting question for these slime)
- they hung up on me. The second time, I hung up on them with them
yelling "what about the children???" in my ear.
3. Many (including mine, Verizon) call phone providers are choosing
not to participate at all in this project.
That's what I found when I chased this down...

P.S. One of the reasons I'm now 100% cell is to avoid phone solicitors.
> HAPPY GETTING SOLICITED BY "CHARTITIES."
Maybe being solicited by someone named "Chartities" wouldn't be so bad?

FWIW, I haven't done anything and I've gotten 2 or 3 telemarketing calls
on my cell in the last week or so. Prior to this, I'd gotten none and I've
had the same number for more than 10 years.

I added my cell to the list in December. I didn't receive any phone
spammers before and don't get any now. My landline phone is about to
get dumped. The only calls I get on it are from telemarketers and a
crackhead chick I took out in October.
Caller ID and the ignore button are the best features ever placed on a
phone. The feature I want is to be able to ignore all calls with an
exception list. There are 3 people I'm taking calls from now; my Dad,
my sister, and my girlfriend. Before last week the number of people
with my cell number was somewhat limited. My mom went into the hospital
last week and now everyone in the county has my number. Apparantly it's
the update hotline. Last Wednesday when the shit hit the fan with my
mom, I quit answering my phone altogether. In a timespan from about
noon to 5:00 I didn't answer 42 calls. I went from 2-3 voicemail
messages a week to 10-15 a day. The number I've had for 8 years will
likely change in the next couple of months and only necessary people
notified. I'm done ranting now.
I've often found that telemarketers will quickly hang up if you talk
dirty to them.
If you are in a family environment, just tell the telemarketer your pet has
caught fire and hang up.
I did the DNC on both land and cell lines. Methinx it worked.

What's she look like? Nice knobs?
Hmmm. Might have to unblock my number to play that game.

Decent knobs but way too psycho. Besides, the chick I'm with now has
much nicer knobs and far less psychotic tendancies.

Yeah, but the one you're with is taken.
