I got back from trail riding last week in Mich. and when I was up there a guy
had a 1994 DR350 that had been bored to a 435 cc with a Cobra ISDE muffler and
a carb that was bored out to 34.5 mm. He actually let me take it out for a ride
and it pulled pretty good from done low to a pretty good top end. Now, all I
have to compare this to is my totally stock DR350S. All the work done on the
this guy's bike was handled by Thumper Racing in Marshall,Texas. That is Dick
Burleson's shop. Oh, and the exhuast wasn't all that loud.

There are two sources that come to mind;
Thumper Racing, they have an assortment of engine and
suspension mods for the DR's including a big bore kit (430cc's ?).
Their 800 number is available in most Dirt related magazines, or just
call 1-800-555-1212 and ask information for it. Good people to talk
to, I'll probably be giving them my business for my DR upgrades.
Cycle Gear (1-800-CYCLE GEAR) also has many goodies available
and publishes dyno specs for their mods. Their big bore kit is a
400cc. They also will bore your carb, port and polish the head and
have other flow related accessories (airbox, pipe, etc).
I like the airbox from Cycle Gear, but think that most of their
engine mods are too much money for too little return unless you're
racing pro and/or money is no object. My plans for my DR350S is to
get the Thumper big bore kit, Scotts suspension mods (available
through Thumper for less money than direct through Scotts), box the
swingarm (requires some welding and is available through Thumper, but
I think I can get it done locally) and beef up the top triple clamp
either with the Answer Pro-Taper kit or come up with something myself.
The DR is a good trail machine, but I want it to be great!
Good Luck, John Holland from the mountains of West Texas
Buy a Husqvarna (or a Husaberg) 350... (Like the DR, they should be
street legal in Germany if that's a concern) By the time you have
added all the goodies to you DR350 (you can buy a $10,000 top of the
line everything DR350 in the US if you want!) to get what you want,
you'll have spent almost as much as a new Husky and will end up with a
lot less bike, a lot less reliable.
Denis.

Scotts has the whole package you describe for < 1000 dollars.
(They advertise in the back of the moto mags)
for your money you get...
385 or 400+ cc's
New exhaust
They do the dirty work.
I havn't tried them .......YET :)
I have seen a couple reviews and the've been good.

Seems to me that Dirt Bike declared the KTM LC4 400 the best bike in this
class. They reviewed the new model (94) in a recent issue, maybe June. It
didn't sound like a great bike to me since it weighs (virtually) as much an
XR600, but then, I guess they all do. When someone releases a mid-size
4-stroke that weighs 230lbs., it'll be worth thinking about. Oh ya, that's
_REAL POUNDS_ so the imaginary marketting claimed weight would be 210 to
220.
