I won't detail the cool stuff.. 7 hours of riding the alleys and loading
docks of Northampton, and UMass during freshman move-on. Or the steep ramp
(35 deg?) behind the restaurant that went up to a secret sandy rectangle
18' wide and maybe 60' long and all sand (feet up and *slow* the whole
time... drawing stares from a dozen skateboarders playing on it) or the
stairways that would lead from upper to lower parking lots or an *awesome*
endless lane of concrete pillars on 12' centers between the bike lane and
the parking lot. Lots of opportunity to work on the narrow-channel crap I
found needed work in Alameda...

The one thing I want to document was up behind one of the retail places on
King St.. a big ass industrial trash compactor next to a shed that appeared
to be ready to fall down if the sun hit it too hard. The lane between them
was about 3' wide and I thought I'd just thread thru it slowly. The
*moment* my front wheel was "in there"... it became clear the space between
them was FILLED with bees. I mean... you can't have that many bees in one
place. It had to be CGI a la Star Wars. I ducked my head and gassed the
piss out of it hoping not to wedge my ass in this really crappy place and I
broke into clear air and took it up to 45 and stood up to blow any pissed
off hitch hikers I might have picked up. No damage to me and I couldn't
stop laughing for some reason.

Met my family for dinner up there and I parked it between two gay looking
choppers. All thru dinner, I watched a fog of Harley types walk past their
supposedly well-differentiated machines to look at mine. I got my gloves
out of the radio box where the cones were and one gentleman smartly decked
out in HD logo-wear asked why I had those to which I replied to learn to
ride better. He said all you need to do is take the MSF advanced course
once a year and I thanked him. Traffic was tight and I was at 90 degrees to
the curb in between two bikes. You watch the fashion show crowd pedal their
way out back and forth... ugly. Mounted up, throttled out and made a nice
feet up pullout to the right into the single lane I had for room and kept
both feet up through the short wait at the red light and beyond. Wish
Charles and Mike could have left with me. We worked on that one together
and I've practiced it probably about 100 more times since. The likely
didn't even notice or put it down to luck.

NIce.

I was at Carnegie OHV park yesterday. I practiced that one every time I
started off from a stop on the YZ. Much fun.

I'd thought I would practice more slow speed stuff, but I wanted to get
some miles in to see how my foot would do. 30 miles, foot is OK. I'm going
to ride the Wild Pony Family Enduro near Reno next weekend.

bees down the shirt are not a thing of envy.
glad you faired well....

I'm exhausted after the extended weekend.
6 hours of skiing, airshow on Saturday,
2 hours of woods riding & 4 hours of skiing Sunday,
today about 7 hour of skiing...
somehow I think I'll sleep well tonight.

They had us... 10'?.. from the wall at Alameda? The practice now is turning
out of a 4' lane into a 4.5' lane left and right. That was the start, and
since I saw this drill as related to the narrow channel stuff in the
180-decel drill, I added. Here's what it turned into.

I I I I
I L_______________I I
I I
I ______ _____ I
I I I I I I
I I I I I I
I I I I I I

All the lanes are 4.5' wide except the entrance lane which is 4', and the
total pattern width is 4 parking space widths. As you'd know, the easy
exits are lower left and right, and the tough ones are upper left and
right. I hated this stuff at Alameda but it's real confidence inspiring.
The concrete handicap sign farm at teh mall is less like a cliff now:)

What about the big clay cone I'm making in my living room?

Strong post. Much well crafted prose.

I grade it an A.

Until Levy posts something more than snappy snippets, he has no right to
grade your more substantial work.

Carry on.

Brevity + soul = wit.

With regards to Mr. Levy and his work, are you saying good things come in
small packages?

That's not exactly what I said, but, sure, sometimes. At least that's
what I was trying to tell her.

Kind comments appreciated... it was chicken scratchings compared to a time
when I tried.

Mr. Levy really is a genius. He leverages "brief" in a way that can only be
described as brilliant. You had to be here for the Fedex post... I cried.

Will do... again, kind words appreciated. (I wonder if these will reflect
in my ratings?)
