Front disc guard
Rear disc guard
Chain guide
Frame guards

Thx in advance

Who needs 'em? We've run thousands of miles in the rocks and trees
without disc guards (and you know how we ride those miles), and the
only bent disc we've ever had came from stuffing the disc into a rock
in the side of an axle deep rut, and frankly, that probably would have
taken out the disc even with a guard. A solid enough guard to prevent
the disc from getting hit then would have more than likely been bent
into the disc itself in that impact.
I worried for a while riding without the disc guards, but I almost
never even think about it now.

TM Designworks. Indestructible.

Can't really say. I've been using some hand-me-down GasGas guards that
I got from Roscoe Rainey (Rev It Up on the GasGas forums) in a used
plastic deal. I'm not sure if they are OEM or aftermarket, but I think
they were OEM from a later year. I could be wrong. They fit well
(except they were made to cover a different rear master cylinder than
mine, so it hangs out past the back of the M/C) and are holding up
very well, but I am currently in the middle of a full tear down
restoration of the poor old bike, and I'm kinda thinking that my
freshly powder coated frame, new seat, new pipe, and all new plastic
and graphics will make my old frame guards look pretty ratty. They
still function just fine, though, so until I find something better
they will go back on the bike. Let me know if anyone turns you on to
something good.

> Thx in advance

You're welcome.
Have you taken advantage of the screaming Polisport plastic deals at
Motorcycle Superstore.com? It's worth buying a spare fender or 2 just
to ensure that none ever break. Fenders for $10 (fronts or rears). A
pair of shrouds or side panels for $20/pair. I bought 3 complete sets
of new plastic (2 yellow, 1 blue). It's the first time in my life that
I've replaced plastic that wasn't broken beyond repair, but at less
that $60 per set, how can I go wrong? Oh yeah, got the air box mud
flap/shock guard/tongue thingy under the airbox for $9, grabbed three
(trials tires and gravelly mud are really, really hard on those mud
flaps).
Welcome to GasGas land, Phil. Don't forget to put an air filter in
that bike (yikes!).

Phil,
I will show you when you get here Friday (except for the front disk
guard). Bring your riding britches.

Phil,
The black plastic frame guards that Tim speaks of are stock for the
2006 year (at least).

Get a MSR universal rear disk guard. It will bolt directly to the
caliper carrier.

Fredette makes a chain guide, also sold as Moose, but I hear good
things about the TM Designworks guide. I use the stock guide with
moose/msr rollers.

Yup, I put those on my 2001. I did trim mine a bit in the area Tim
spoke about.
I've been absent from GG rider for a month or two.
I got sucked into that other time drain on the web. Gotta quit that
soon. Pure waste of energy over there.

Congrats on the new ride!

Thx Tim.

Yea, I picked up several pieces. I got all new yellow on her. Picked
that up from Jim.
Then got 2 rear fenders (Blue, Yellow), front fender for a 250 (Yellow
w/ the duck bill),
side panels (white), and a set of blue shrouds from Motorcycle
Superstore. Also got
a yellow replacement headlight. Gonna have to do some more work on
that for it to fit
right. Now all I need is some of that sweet new JT yellow/black gear
and I'm in there.

A quick search of the site and I can not find the guards anymore.
Maybe they stopped making them?!?!?!?
Worth a call.

Thanks a bunch Mr Economic Advisor,
I got a screaming (you were correct) deal for $112 delivered:
2 rear fenders
1 set side panels (they better be a set, because they didn't ask which
side)
2 sets shrouds (ditto)
1 groovy new headlamp (retail $129)

watch for the promo code on page 1, worth shrouds and a fender.

YMMV

You're very welcome. I stalled and used Jim as a guinea pig to test
the plastic. I didn't order until after I got him to open his box of
new plastic while I was on the phone with him. Once he reported that
he had a "big ol' smile" after opening it up, I knew I was safe in
ordering .

I don't normally like to say "I told you so", but I told you so.

Yep, side panels and shrouds are in pairs.

> 1 groovy new headlamp  (retail $129)

What did you get? I could use a new one. The blue Hebo from my bike
has a broken shell, and I have another Hebo in black that I could use,
but a new light would look pretty spiffy on my face-lifted-and-tummy-
tucked old girl. The Hebo is actually a pretty good light, so I don't
want to replace it with something that doesn't work pretty well, but
headlight shopping is kinda a crap shoot in that regard.

> watch for the promo code on page 1, worth shrouds and a fender.

Kewl, I might have to go back anyway...we also picked up a couple of
rear fenders for Scott's KTM (the ones with the side panels built in,
about $75 from most sources) for ten bucks each.
I've also got to find a yellow airbox door. I didn't find anything
about them on the M/C Superstore site, but I think I've seen something
on the GasGas forums about someone getting a yellow door from them, so
I should check back.

My 2005 came with factory frame guards as well. They started using them
when they went away from nickel coating the frame.

We've been thinking about masking the frame rails and putting on some
brush on bedliner stuff, too. Anybody know anybody that's done that?

Scott had that thought a couple of weeks ago (good idea, huh?). It
seems like it should work well if you could get some/enough/the right
texture. I'm hesitant to try it on a freshly powder coated frame
without some feedback. We could try it on Scott's bike first: that'd
give us an accelerated testing cycle, and if it doesn't work out well
it won't be as obvious because he wears out the whole side of his bike
WAY faster than I do (I'm a little bowlegged and grip at the ankles
and knees mostly, but Scott makes full contact all the way up the side
of his bike).

They sell that stuff in spray cans at Home Depot:
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202097787/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053

Also Tractor Supply: http://www.tractorsupply.com/plasti-kote-reg-truck-bed-liner-16-5-oz--1038674
and even WalMart: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rust-Oleum-Auto-Truck-Bed-Coating-Aerosol/16652310

If you cover the sides of the bike with skateboard deck grip tape,
it'll protect the bike, give super grip, and destroy all of Scott's
riding clothes at the same time.

Kewl. Pretty cheap experiment.

We've had bad luck with grip tape peeling off the bike, but to be
honest we haven't bought a sheet of it from a skate shop. Might give
that a try too.

I made the graphics package for Jess last season out of the 3M material.
The UV Grip, protective sheet was 12 mm and her uniform ate right
through it... She really hangs on to that little RMZ;)

Me too.
I forgot or gave up on finding a blue front fender to match my new
blue plastic. Not sure how well the colors will match either my old
OEM GasGas blue or how the new polisport GG blue would match their YZ
blue. Prolly grab another set of number plates too. Hard to resist
those prices, especially if that 20% code is still there.

OK, looks like a pretty nice unit. It comes with extra hardware but no
pictures or directions, so... maybe if I had a diiferent bike I'd be
excited about the extra hardware. Could be it's used to lock in the
mounting rubbers. But the rubbers are too small for USD forks, so...
that sorta sucks.
<insert joke about extra large rubbers>

Basic bulb and wiring layout looks identical to my 2001 GasGas OEM
unit.

The headlight is marked as Yamaha blue, and seems to match the GG blue
just fine. I'll be able to tell for sure when the sun comes up. So,
I'll be looking for a YZ front fender I guess.
