apart form training your arms - indeed rowing is a great sport to
strengthen all fours - one of the main reasons for pump up is being afraid
to loosen grip on the handlebars! just don't squeeze the grips and trust
the bike going the right direction when you look and sit right.

i race rowed for a couple of years in an eight and beleve me holding the
oar too tight just results in the same pump up as with motorcross/enduro -
even after extensive weightlifting and cardio vascular training. the trick
is to coordinate the grip with the lower arms and get the strength from
your bi and triceps, chest muscles and legs...

for MX that means knees to the tank, elbows up and eyes fixed at the track.
