Thanks,
Steve
Long ago I sprayed (with a REAL sprayer) many layers of orange automotive
lacquer on my Ducati gas tank and spare bits. It looked good for a long
time. I couldn't even get krylon to stay on my BICYCLE when I used it.

If he had any brains, he'd take them out and play with them.

I don't have the answer, but I haven't found anything in a spray can that
will work, including Krylon, machinery enamel, or automotive paint. Goes on
fine, looks beautiful, peels off on the first gas spill....
You can just get the clear coat and spray it over Krylon. Works pretty
well, but it is not as hard or durable as real automotive paint. It is
fuel-proof, however.
I have had good results just painting with Krylon and then having a local
guy shoot automotive 2 part clear coat on the parts. They'll usually do
this fairly cheap, especially if they're doing a car at the same time.
Good luck!

When we wanted a bicycle frame painted we asked all the local paint shops
if they could shoot it ANY color when they were painting another car.
$125 was the best price offered. I don't think they wanted to do it. So
we used Krylon, which scratched off easily even after several weeks.
Clearly wasted effort, but it was some kind of French or Italian frame
with really pretty fancy lugs.
The automotive lacquer I used on the Ducati tankwas quite gas-resistant,
and a little bit of it peeled off near the gas tap only after the bike had
been sitting in a shed for 15 years or so. Curiously enough, in all that
time the tire pressure stayed up. Wish I knew what kind of tubes were in
the Dunlop tires.
