I have a 2000 RM 125 and can someone tell me if they make a
speedometer/odometer for a bike like this.
I never heard of one, but you would think someone would make them, I'd buy
it.
thanx, chris

I can't vouch for them, I just ran across the their site one day and decided
to bookmark it. If you do get it, let us know what you think.

I can vouch for them and the product. Very much worth the money,
complete kit with everything you need to install it, easy to install,
nice features.

Go to a bike store and buy any speedometer that works on a bicycle. It will
work on your motorcycle just as well and a lot cheaper.

Try ICO racing, they make enduro computers but they also make a speedo-odo
called the auto cal. It's about $150.00 retail. Quality product. Here is a
link. http://www.icoracing.com/index.htm

Chris,

I have tried the bicycle speedos. The cable kept breaking that connected
the sensor to the computer. It wasn't reliable.

I finally bought a GPS. It gave me some trouble initially, but a few minor
modifications made it stable and reliable. I used a piece of bicycle inner
tube to keep the handlebar mount from rotating while riding and I reinforced
one of the battery contacts to make the unit more shock proof in rough
terrain. It's great!

What GPS do you use? I was thinking of doing the same thing, I would like
one that has elevation also. I am a GPS n00bie so any info would be nice.
Thanks.

This may have been part of the discussion earlier and if so, I apologize.
The trailtech doesn't seem to do the enduro time-keeping thing, and it
sounds like the resettable odo needed for an enduro isn't in it yet. My
question is would you still do the trailtech if you wanted to run an
enduro once or twice a year? And I can't figure out why they just don't
build the enduro functionality in... it's just extra code. Can't see why
they don't just put it in.

The guy who started Trailtech is an HP engineer. He OEMs the
computer from Panoram and adds his bike-specific mounting kits.
Since he doesn't build the computer, he has to negotiate with
Panoram for the firmware upgrade. If I were to guess, I would
hope it was available in the next year.

BTW, VLJ is very happy with his Trailtech. I'm sure it looks
beautiful on his bike as it sits in the garage. Rumor is that we
might get Victor out of retirement in time for COSF01.

This unit was originally designed for bicycle application, I doubt
they ever imagined it would be used in an enduro setting.

If you question above is: would I spend $300 or $75 if I were only
going to use the extra capability once or twice a year. I'd probably
go for the less expensive alternative and scab off another rider for
the enduro work.

The batteries on the ICO will last a few days. It uses some pretty old
technology. With the exception of not being able to reset to a specific
mileage, any of the bicycle odometers are superior.

I'd go with the Trailtech. It's based on the Panoram bicycle odometer.
The robust sensor and wire are well worth the small additional cost over
a regular bicycle odometer. It will be as accurate as your calibration.

I've heard many reports of motorcycle ignitions interferring with the
wireless models. The motorcycle also places the odo & sensor farther
apart, compounding the problem.

IMHO, the ICO AutoCal is far superior to the Cateye bicycle odo.
I won't say it's better than the TrailTech, but it sounds like the
TrailTech is lacking in some critical areas for dirtbiking. I tried
the Cateye and it let me down in two enduros. The bicycle odos can't
stand up to the rigors of dirt biking what with the mud and shock.

I've had the ICO for almost two years now with the same batteries
and I've done several two-day events. Battery life is not an issue
with the AutoCal. Plus it has features that the bicycle odo's don't
have like resettable to the tenths and you can program in resets
(very nice). The AutoCal is very accurate and it will adjust
itself automagically to the guy's bike that set the enduro. IMHO,
the whole package is very much worth the money and high quality.

Hmmm, I've been running the same Cateye for nearly 10 years. No
problems once I hardened the sensor wire & sensor mount.

The Autocal I bought last year would drain the batteries in a few days
if you forgot to turn it off. Yes, it is far better for running
enduros. I think it's too bulky, heavy, & expensive for trail use. The
trail tech tracks a bunch of other statistics that are nice for trail
riding.

AHA! That's the secret. Yes, I agree that you can most likely
make anything work, if you modify it enough. I was just comparing the
two items out the box with installing them with the parts given. I
didn't have to do any mods to my ICO and for a bungling mechanical
dude like me (remember, I'm a software guy), that's important.

OK, I think we're talking two separate applications. My reference
is for racing only, other than that, I couldn't care less how
far I've gone or how fast I'm going. I've got the stock odo,
speedo and tach on the DR that shows all that stuff. I'd have
to agree that I wouldn't buy an ICO just for trail use. Sorry,
my misunderstnading...
