Anyone know what the top speed of a stock of an XR600, I happened to have
got a glance at some of my competition in the Elsinore Grand Prix, and it
seems most of them were Honda's. My guess was most of them were probably
XR600's .Since the way my Husqvarna's is set up I know I can do a little
more than 100mph, and that' s not rapping it out to the max. becasuse I
havent' seen the course yet but from what I understand it's very fast.

If your talking 100% stock, without changing a sprocket, mine does about
140 km/h, which is close to 90 mph. It still is high in rpm and has enough
power to go faster if I'd change the sprocket.

You can go as big as a 15 tooth counter shaft sprocket, but you will have to
trim the case saver alittle. I put one on my 94 xr600, the engine has enough
power to pull this gearing, I have the stock rear sprocket. Don't know what the
top speed is, but the landscape goes by pretty quick.

Don´t do it! The XR is designed for this type of gearing, and traveling
in the rough. Buy yourself another type of bike if you are not
traveling fast enough. Incidently I can state from experiance that with
42 tooth at the rear the thing can top a 160 km/h, but it can
practically do nothing else.

Yes, as irreleveant as it is for dirt riding, I have indeed tried this
out on a stock '90 XR600 a few years ago geared up for a particular road
ride with an 18 inch front road bike tyre on the back (I vaguely
remember 15 or 16 front and 40 or 42 rear sprockets). As it was, it
could have handled slightly higher gearing.

Riding flat on the tank, the bike was clocked by another bike at 170kmh
(about 107 mph) on the road. I doubt it would have done anywhere near
this with a knobbie tyre on the rear, probably nearer 95 - 100 mph

For what it's worth.....,
GRant

According to Galileo and/or Newton every XR600 (and every other bike)
will speed up to appr. 280 kmh (equals 160-170 mph) when thrown out of a plane
w/o a parachute.

Take it easy, Franz

An XR600? 140mph? Not without involving gravity or a turbo or nitrous!
