Hello!

What's the difference between the MX and enduro models of most brands?
Kawasaki, for example... is the KLX actually the KX 250 frame,
suspension, bored out motor, etc, along with lights and maybe a heavy
fly-wheel?

How big IS the difference between the "enduro" and MX versions of the
various brands?...

Thanks In Advance!

I think you mean the KDX / KX comparison....What type of riding do you
see yourself liking the most? Trails or Motocross??? The main difference
is the flywheel weight and porting / powercurve. And size...the KDX is
avail. in 200cc's and is VERY popular cus it's light like a 125 and
powerful like a 250 (sorta) the MX version is 125 or 250 only. The enduro
mounts are more forgiving and less likely to stall. Unless you know you
want a KX you will most likely be happier with a KDX. KLX is a
four-stroke (heavy).

Sorry,
A KDX 200 weighs more than all of the 250 MX bikes. According to Dirt Bike
magazine, a KDX200 weighs 238 lbs. Most 250 MX bikes weigh about 228-230 lbs
and 125 MX bikes weigh 210. Also they measured horsepower at 26 for the KDX
220 vs 29 for 125 MX bikes and 40 for 250 MX bikes.

Don't get me wrong, a KDX is a fine trail bike, I was just pointing out that
it weighs more than a 250 for less power than a 125. I know that for trail
riding, low end torque is more important and the KDX does well here. Also,
when I have sat on a KDX it feels a lot wider and heavier than an MX bike.

I am just going by the Dirt Bike Sept 99 issue where they weighed and dyno'd
about 30 bikes including the KDX 200 and 220.
KDX 200 - 26 HP 238 Lbs
KDX220 - 27 HP 238 lbs
KX250 - 41.5 HP 230lbs
CR250 - 40 HP 222 lbs
KX125 - 28 HP 210 lbs
CR125 - 29 HP 207 lbs

Just to list a few. I am not saying they didn't make mistakes, only that
these are the numbers they published. There is a big diference between
torque and HP. I believe that the KDX makes more torque at lower RPMs then
other bikes. Also it is interesting to note (from the charts) that the 125's
generate their peak HP at about 11,500 RPMs compared to most 250's at 8,000.
They did not chart the KDX however, only listed its peak HP.
