well this weekend I worked on improving my balance (with the assistance from
my wife)
apparently lower center of gravity does help to eliminate some axis mass
issues for slow speed stuff. well my lovely & gracious wife did make a
20lbs. + turkey with all the trimmings yesterday.. had both sets of parents
over & a grand old time... not much riding Since mom still thinks bikes are
evil & tolerates my dirtybike quirks.... I did go sit in the woods about 20
feet up while deer mingled about
happily under me (in perfect safety since I didn't feel like standing up &
shooting left handed) anyhow all that time in the woods had me thinking that
the whole hour I sat I would have had almost as much fun riding one of those
70's vintage dirt bikes with 4" of travel & the center of gravity down low
where it belongs. I looked down at my waist & realized the cider & doughnuts
I had earlier this week (I love fall) also was subtly guiding me back to my
roots when I was "fast". as it seemed in the 80's when I was riding clapped
out bikes that had barely enough suspension to handle a root I actually had
an easier time navigating the woods... the low slung bikes had a coon dog's
nose to the ground as they weaved through the trees. not to take anything
away from the Spanish lass.. she has impeccable taste when it comes to
dancing the dance. but the lower slung bikes just make me feel like I'm
going faster with less risk of falling over. I still can't get comfortable
with leaning a bike into a turn... (flash backs of lowsiding a schwinn in
cinders, & the pain of scrubbing the knees) so I seem to like short burst of
speed way early braking putting through the turn with my feet out on the
inside, (just incase) then another short burst.... so I go back to the short
bikes of the 70's though. really I am fast on the Gas Gas, but having a
short bike lets me think I could dab a foot much easier, giving me some
mental comfort that IF & When the slight bobble occurs I could correct it
easier than waiting until the bike was at an acute angle & thereby requiring
ACL & MCL max forces to prop it back into normal trajectory... this could
all be cured by purchasing a Pampera, I suppose, but I really don't want to
have to kick something out of the garage to make room... OH THE HUMANITY OF
IT ALL... do I just eat a little more & stretch my legs a bit or look into a
woods plinker.

You still ride and you chose to sit up there and watch deer? Shame on you!
I'm worried you hang around jerks like me too much. Get on the GG and ride,
lewzer!

ps - we're closed today since we forgot about Columbus day until it was
over. I came in to meet an applicant for the asst position and she's 18 min
late. I'd say bolt.. no?

Why was Dana late? 18 minutes is a long time, especially the
interview day. I'm surprised she showed at all. The devious PI mind
that I have tells me to show up the next day and convince you that you
scheduled me on Tuesday.

18 minutes late? I'm guessing the story should be interesting.
take pictures if she shows up in a wet towel holding a left
blinker off of a cb350.
the deer thing was entertaining & relaxing, where else could
you be where no one is likely to intrude (might get shot, tends
to limit the passer bys)

if you need me, I'll be taking a nap in a tree, approach noisy
& try not to look like fresh venison.

I'll never know... damn near 100 applicants I *didn't* toss on first
inspection.

Then it was the right thing to do. Do you believe dirt bikes attract deer?
I used to have a small pack of bow hunters working the area I used to ride
who LIKED me there... thought the deer came toward the motor sound.

I can't say they were attracted, but I never saw deer run from me unless I
got really close.

I don't remember where the entrance to the woods is anymore so no worries.
Good luck.

I saw a show a week or so ago where some grizzleys in an isolated area
associated gun fire with a free meal. In a normal year they would lie
down and watch the hunters clean the deer from 30 yards away or so and
then eat what was left when the hunters were gone. One year when late
snows and a dry summer completely decimated their food sources... they
were nearly starving and decided not to wait and attacked/killed
several hunters.

I guess Frank didn't go there for the riding... I wonder if grizzly's could
discriminate quads from motorcycles... just thinking out loud.
