Timeout... I guess Austria is too far from Brasil and the bits are
getting lost along the wire... :-)
This month's edition of my favorite dirt bike magazine (which I buy
one copy every six months, it ain't *that* good) came with a brief
test ride on the BMW GS450. Looks great, they made it look like a fast
and capable bike, for those with *deep* pockets. Maintenance on that
thing, I am sure, will cost lots of money. Just think about a simple
sprocket/chain change...

Gawd, that's some awesome stuff. I love the scale of the hills.
I wonder if the 'speed' channel will manage to produce a watchable
show on it this year?
I guess if the rain don't crash you out of it, the heat'll cook you
out of it.

Absolutely True. In 1995 i finished 4+ hours past the first guy,
right after they closed the race. I did take some time cooling
down my system by drinking nearby creek water.
Fact are: 500 Starters max., 10 rows, one row per minute or so.
Anybody in row 2 or later must be a god to win. The usual problem
with too many people running for a scrace commodity: queues, hence
no momentum.
Rumor has it, that past the initial years of 1995 or 1997 where
i attended they bumped up the difficulty to exzessive ambulance
levels to keep the number of finishers interestingly low.
The part that deterred me from any further attempt to enter
were the number injuries and lack of medical support when people
did severely break bones, tumbling down fields of fridge sizes
rocks, and my lack of patience and endurance.
The running gag was to yell at the guys stuck ahead of you
similar to "move! get out of my line and back to your track,
inept Crosser!". Reason was the lineup for Sunday's hare
scramble (the trials part) came from the "Rodeo" finishers
the days before (100mph gravel sections connected by 100 ft
wide hairpins) where there MC guys did shine. Same guys
ran into some wood skill deficits on their 125MXs.
You can get an idea of the kind of territory considering that
both multiple Erzberg winner Chris Pfeiffer
(http://www.chrispfeiffer.com/) as well as Doug Lampkin
(last year's winner) do have certain skills in the 0 - 10 mph
speed range.
However, should you be let's say some polish tent camper and
enter on a stock loaner bike and actually win, you'll instantly
become a KTM factory rider (Tadeusz Blazusiak 2007)
