I didn't really do all this for the SF but the timing is right ;) My bike
hasn't seen any real
maintenance in over 3 years but I cant tell the missus that. The kid
bought some ceet graphics
for his '90 YZ250WR and he *got* graphics for a WR250. He jumped the gun
and ripped it all
open and didn't want to return it and it turned out that they fit my WR250
just fine, so:

- Installed set of Ceet "echo" graphics

That made the rest of my bike look really ratty, so:

- ordered black acerbis rally guards
- ordered black ufo front number plate
- ordered black ufo front fender
- ordered black ufo fork sliders
- ordered black ceet gripper seat cover
- ordered white ufo side panels and rear fender

While waiting for all that junk to arrive I measured out my sag at over 5.5
inches and couldn't
recoup the 40 mm (or so) so I pulled the shock. While taking the linkage
apart the poor
bearings and dust seals practically crumbled in my hand. I will NOT
reiterate what it took for
me to get the swingarm off. I'll just say that I'm a big fan of air-tools
and will be buying a
compressor shortly, but for the suspension, I've got:

- stiffer shock spring
- new swingarm pivot bolt
- all new bearings
- all new dust seals
- new heims -- those buggers are pricey

I'm sure the bike will look just beautimous when I get it done but right
now I have a pile of
parts and some nasty looking receipts ... I just got the idea for this
post when the missus
asked me "so what are doing to get ready for the spodefest ??"...

My answer ? "Working LOTS of OT"

This doesn't even take into account how out of shape I am or the fact that
I've still gotta jet
one kids YZ and it takes a week for the new needle I think I need to get
here OR the fact
that I've still gotta get a top-to-bottom rebuild done on the other kids
bike... Sigh... Whoever
said horse-racing was the sport of kings didn't own dirt bikes...

Wait... You have to clean those things? Doesn't that let all the air in?

I mounted new S-12's, changed the oil in the KTM, also bought an extra air
filter. Took the tank off last night to see what needle and main jets my
bike had. Am having the bearings replaced in my trailer. Mounted the
second bike shoe on the trailer. Had my wife put a fresh coat of paint on
the trailer last week, too.

Called Alex at DNA today - he was very helpful!

WOOoooo! We will have a DNA scientist there! Mr. Big Shot. Guess it's a good

What do fresh tires smell like? Mine are about a year old and smell rubbery.

In all seriousness... How do you clean these air filter thingies? I took the
seat off, used a table spoon to dig out all the dirt and the spongie thing just
kind of fell all apart.

Will it run better without all that spongie stuff in there? Seems like it
would let the dirt in easier and since it's a dirt bike, wouldn't it run
better?

Mikes intended diet of twinkies and beer reminded me that I have to develop
menues for three or more days, breakfasts included! Probably do a couple rare,
petite filets with julienned french green beans and a caeser salad with a nice
bottle of Cab, a light hollandaise on eggs benedict for breakfast with a simple
lunch, maybe roast a duck on day-2, and produce a small pate from the livers
and gizzards, blended with mushrooms and armagnac for flavor, wild truffles if
there arr ant, that would mkae a lovely sandwiche spread on Sunday, a nice
Reising would go well or a dry Voignier...

Well, the damn thing doesn't run right...the mag is belly-up...still. I gave it
back to the SOB that was paid to fix it but its still not right if the race last
weekend was an indicator. Pulls out of a corner like a sick Moto Beta 100. Last
weekend at the AHRMA National in Colorado Springs was the second time I have
tried to race this bike, the first time it wouldn't even run. This time is ran
(after a second rebuild of the Mag ign system) and even though it seemed to work
when I gave it a little ride in the street I didn't go to well on the track....I
got smoked off the line and had a hard time keeping the Intermediates behind me.
Gees, I had to fan the clutch to get it out of some corners...my God its a 650
Twin! I should be lightly throttling the thing to keep traction and be worried
about getting sideways. I pissed that I'm not going to be able to go to the
AHRMA National in Washington state later this month. I think I need a complete
mag re-due and a replacement auto advance unit too. I expect a cost of over
$500. This sucks big time.

In the category of good stuff, is the way a pre-unit Tri Metisse handles.
REALLY COOL. More on this subject sometime later.

Well, I guess the 360 Husky runs...but its a long way from being a "trail bike"
and woods legal.
And, of course, work is going " just great" that's why I'm here at 8.30 at night.
