It's officially spring and that means time for DJ to get a new putt.

My cherished and babied 200 is up for grabs, for details see:

http://www.motosports-boise.com/dj_200_fs.htm

Of course, I'd prefer to sell it locally (Boise, Idaho), but if some
anxious spode is within 200 miles or so, I might be talked into
delivering or driving half way. I can also arrange shipping via
ForwardAir or your favorite carrier.

That's the plan...

I maintain the dealer's web site, along with other assorted computer
related tasks and act as de facto "in-the-field-rep" for them. Their
payment to me comes in the form of $ off a new bike, parts and
accessories. They treat me very well and I treat them very well. We
probably both think we're getting the better end of the deal. We're
both happy, what better relationship could there be?

From the moment I pick up the bike, in the back of my mind is, "Keep
it looking and running well so I can sell it easily after a year."

On my '99, very near the end of that year, I managed to wipe out a rad
shroud. I got caught in a dinky little rut and dab, dab, dabbed for
about 50' before I went down. When I priced replacing the shrouds I
found it not a whole lot more $ to get a complete set. The guy who
bought the bike got the new plastic along with a new seat cover.

This year I was smart enough to buy the new plastic when the bike was
new, so the buyer of this bike will get the stock plastic in new
condition. I also covered up all non-replaceable plastic surfaces with
graphic material (air box covers, tank area not protected by shrouds
etc.) The material on the tank had bubbled a bit over time so I pulled
it off, used WD to remove the adhesive and it looks new and shiny
underneath.

I am also a bit on the anal side when it comes to keeping a clean
bike. Like my neighbor (from Arkansas) said once, "I ain't never seen
nobody clean a motorsickle lack dat befo..." Yes I use a toothbrush
(and two sizes of bottle brushes too, great cleaning tools BTW). My
friends make fun of me, but after a while their bikes start looking
like crap and mine still looks like new.

I normally change the oil every two or three rides. I have 4 air
filters and use NoToil so it's not a problem to keep the filter fresh.
I also make sure that everything that should be greasy stays that way.
I fall "down" a lot, but have yet to "crash" at speed (my body can't
afford it).

In short, I take really good care of my bike, 'cuz I know in one short
year the critical eye of the buyer will be inspecting my baby.

You must ride a fairly bare bike. Even at discount prices when I outfit a
bike with bark busters, skid plate, rad guards, pipe guard, etc...
that adds up pretty quick. Putting used armor on a new bike isn't too cool
either. :)

No, I had a E-Line CF pipe guard, MSR bash plate, Acerbis rally pro
hand guards and EE shark fin on it. I've taken them off, I won't mind
putting the "used armor" on the new bike at all.

Function is foremost. Other than for resale appeal, I don't care that
much what my bike looks like, or me for that matter. None of my
"stuff" matches, I wear a plain white helmet, I do have KTM orange
gloves (thanks DC). Even though I personally liked the all black look
I never bothered to put even one graphic or sticker on it except a low
key white vinyl lettered "MotoSports" on the front fender.

The KTMs look so much alike, unless you are familiar with the
differences, as an added bonus, I can tell someone that just whipped
my butt that it's only a 125. Conversely when I out drag a big bore 4S
or 250 2S, I can tell them it's a 300 and they don't feel so bad. That
is until I tell them it's a puny 200cc..............<G>

WoooHoooo, the first guy who looked at my bike bought it. Actually, I
was out riding a borrowed bike on Sunday, I'd left my wife an "info"
sheet and starting/warm up instructions. When I came home that evening
I had a $200 deposit waiting for me. By 6:30pm on Monday I had a nice
stack of 44 hundred dollar bills and no bike......

Strangely enough, almost exactly one year ago, when I was selling my
'99, I was 350 miles away in SLC when my wife showed the bike to the
guy who bought it (another "first looker").

Next spring when I sell my bike, I think I'll just let her handle it.
<G>

I pick up my 2001 200 tomorrow!
