I was wondering if someone might be able to help me with a wiring
problem on 1978 Yamaha DT125

This is the situation I was given the bike and would like to get it
runnig for my son. The lights and wiring harness have been stripped from
the bike. There are four wires coming from the engine one has a current
when the bike is kicked over. How do I wire thses wires to the Coil. Is
the Capacitor on the bike necessary. There is no battery in the bike.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Oscar

That bike also needs a CDI box besides the ignition coil.
The wires are color coded. If your CDI box is gone, you aren't going
anywhere...

If it's a '78, it does indeed need a CDI box, as none of the 125's after
'76 had points. You should have a brown and red or brown and black wires
coming from the engine. These are the source coil for the ignition. They
should go directly to the CDI box. Then you should have a red/white wire
and probably a red/green wire. These are the pulser coil. These also go
directly to the CDI box.

From the CDI box, you should have an orange wire that goes to the primary
ignition coil, and a black or black/white wire that goes to the engine
stop ("kill") switch. These are all that are required for the bike to run.
The battery is simply for lights and horn. The capacitor you refer to is
most likely the flasher (turn signal) relay.
