I suspect at least one well known racer is gay. Why won't he come out of
the closet? I think he would be a great role model for the gay community.
That would take balls. Let's see one of the e-magazines break *that* story.

I suspect most of the freestyle guys are gay...... not that's there's
anything wrong with it.

Just a theory, but if you look at how the majority of the dirtbike
community (aka customers) is wired up, you can probably imagine how
sponsors would feel about such a revelation. He might fear a large
loss in income. Not everyone can be counted on to react in the
exemplary manner of Jay's employer.

If our society is going to become "sex blind" (in same way as "color blind")
then it should not matter or be any significance if a rider is gay or
straight or likes to wear diapers and get spanked --- therefore, not
anything worth reporting, or pointing out.

I don't know David, I did an experiment and asked some freestyle guys
over to my house for a pajama party. They dooshed me with gas and
started throwing lit matches at me. Was it my perfume...???

I'd be glad for him. I could care less and would hate to see that secret
bother anyone - and I would guess it does bother him since he has to keep it
a secret.

Well, that's right. You wear those pretty little pants, don't you? You
should grow some of that long hair like Peter Patton's got and come on down
south for a little trail ride..... be sure and wear those pretty pants. I
show you how we ride around the swamps. I'll even let you lead.

You can go back and tell them Mormons just what the hell goes on down here
in the deep south.

But it is neither. There is still alot of prejudice out there. And we are
DEFINITELY not sex blind. Don't forget all the Clinton stuff. Should we be? That
is a fine line. Obviously each of us have moral responsibilities, yet we
should't go back to the 'cruisades' times and start gay bashing either.

The guys I work with call anybody with the bleachy blond spikey

"fag tips".

It should be obvious they aren't the most politically correct bunch of
assholes around, but if they're right, there are a helluva lot of gay
guys at every race I've been to... not that there's anything wrong

Jeepers, David, just come out already. You are already the #1 flame
bait in the group. You are spending way too much time thinking about
this not to be questioning your own sexuality. Take a walk on the
wild side and post us a story.

BTW, Jay's not gay. He's a French speaking, Eskimo, cross dressing,
cartoon artist person of color other than European White. He
qualified for free-everything-for-life when he filled out his census
form.

As for me, I'm a woman trapped in a man's body. Luckily, that woman
is a butch lesbian so it all works out.

While probably not quite as effective, I get some looks when I walk
around with my shaved (for the same reason as yours) head and my
favourite T-shirt with a squadron insignia incorporating the emblem of
the Finnish air force in the 1940's which, incidentally, is a swastika.

The only actual comment I've gotten was someone who sure knew that I'm
no neo-Nazi asking whether I've gotten any comments for the
do-shirt-combination. My looks (see spode pics) and size may have
something to do with the lack of insults coming my way.

No wonder I had to do it myself all the time. In ever told the

After frequenting a NASCAR newsgroup for a few years and enduring rampant homophobia, it's nice to
see there are motorsport/racing forums where folks are fairly open-minded :-)

Ironic, since motocross seems to be the most testosterone-fueled motorsport out there (and there
ain't nuthin' wrong with that)... of course, I remember reading David Pingree's column in Racer-X
last year, when he told a reader not to ride like he was "gay"... maybe one of those big, badass gay
athletes like Bill Walton oughtta smack Ping upside the head one (just kidding -- we like Ping at
our house).

I think it's pretty funny that a lisp signifies homosexuality to some folks... heck, they oughtta
hear Michael Waltrip and Buddy Baker talk. Makes MC seem downright macho. Er, manly.

Wrench Mama, Interest point about some people thnking a lisp signifies homosexuality. Have you ever
noticed how many NASCAR drivers
are Red Heads. Do you think maybe, that may mean something too?

Wow, Bill Walton is gay? Does Peter Vesci know about this??

And he's a redhead with a lisp - it all makes sense now.

OK, so I figure I am a pretty open minded old fart. BUT....you are just
NEVER gonna get guys to quit making fag jokes. They are too damn funny and
are NOT meant to hurt anyone. They are just funny.

I personally (as do many others if they will admit it) think it is not
altogether correct for a couple of guys to kiss and rub their weiners
together. Girls kissing is fine, of course. Now I don't want to outlaw it
or anything, but I WILL demand as a right to think it is not correct...just
as you apparently think a good muff diving session is not correct. Part of
this is fag jokes.

Now I have presently, and have had in the past had quite a few gay friends,
both men and women. I have heard the jokes they make about themselves and
straigts. So don't you go chastising me for making the same jokes y'all do.

Now thats that.

I ain't giving up the retard humour though.

My best friend and riding buddy from college came out when I was
around 22. His girlfriend/cover was the one who told me (a
particularly hot lipstick lesbian herself it turnsout.) It ruined our
friendship because my nickname for him was "Cupcake" which I refused
to stop calling him even after he came out. Straight guys make gay
jokes because that whole visual is too damn funny. Well, that and the
under 24 or so guys are still questioning their whole sexuality. I
saw a gay scene in a skin flick once, a penis sticking out of a face
with a moustache on it is just too weird. The point? I don't think I
have one. How about "live and let live?" I can treat gay guys like
one of the guys right up to the point where there is any PDA's. Gay
guys have to realize that straight guys have a reflexive, gutteral,
revolting feeling when they see that stuff. Now two hot babes going
at it, *that* I could watch all day. Then again, having Laetita Casta
from behind while she services Heidi Klum is a visual stuck on endless
loop.

I worked with a guy that turned out to be gay. He was one of the best
friends I ever had. I finished school and moved to another town. He was
depressed when I left but he wouldn't tell me why. I was too tied up with
myself and my new job/life to worry about him.

Anyway, I got a call about a year later that he had died. Of course, he had
aids but never told me. I went to the funeral. I still regret not being
there to help him. I sure wish he would have told me so that I could have
supported him. He was a great guy. That was about 10 years ago and I still
think about him often.

It's funny how life experiences tend to make you more tolerant.

I guess though Bill's never 'advertised it', he's been fairly open when asked over the years. But
yeah, I was surprised, too when I first heard it on the radio several years ago.

So much for stereotypes, eh? ;-)

Rob thanks for the post, I wouldn't worry to much about the joke thing.
They'll run there course in time. People are always curious and make fun
of things they don't understand. I believe it hard for anyone that's
different
in this sometimes very cruel world. RMD is a very open and sometimes crazy
forum. It's nice to hear from everyone and I wish more Gays, Women,
Blacks and Riders from other countries, would post. Diversity is what makes
things interested.
Are all spiked blond guys, Gay? It's just a young guy thing, Right?

all's i know is the gay friends that i have that ride need no
defending. They know all the dumb fag jokes, and all the dumb
straight jokes. Give them all the shit you want, they can take it if
you can. As with anyone, the proof is in the riding. Whoever is
faster is the better man.

From what i can see, you don't become a 40 year old gay motorcycle
racer by having thin skin.
