Hey! Thanks for remembering the stranger, you guys!

I wouldn't say it was unmatched, but I had an *excellent* birthday
celebration over the weekend.
Eric and I took the "big bikes" (my Husky SM610 and his KTM LC4 640SM)
down to the Carrizo Plain for some riding.
We ended up riding Ballinger Canyon OHV area and the Pozo-LaPanza OHV
area on street tires. It was a rockin' good time!
Huge fun on the twisty pavement, even in the rain, and the exploring
was totally cool. I kept thinking about Tim because he was from there
and went to school there.
I wonder if you rode any of these places, Tim?

I worked today, but it was OK because I ate donuts all day and got
lots of attention. It could only have been better if they'd brought me
a plate of bacon to go with the donuts.

On a totally unrelated note, I still absolutely love my SM610. We rode
rocking top-gear pavement twisties, semi-paved goat trail twisties,
dirt roads, singletrack, black diamond 4WD trails...just a little bit
of everything and that 610 makes *everything* fun!
I highly recommend big-motor supermotos <G>

Yeah, happy birthday, Tami. I was just waiting for an opportune time
to tell you, and, uh, for some reason it wasn't until now...I don't
suppose that's any better than "I forgot", is it? I'm sorry, I truly
suck at remembering anniversaries of every sort. Ask Theresa.

Yep, rode them both a few times, but not really that much. Before I
moved up north I was primarily an MX track snob, and would only bother
to ride an area with a track, or the potential to lay out a track
(great stories about the abandoned golf course where a buddy rented
the old pro shop as his home). In fact, the first time I rode
Ballinger was after I had moved up here. The last time I was there I
was swapping bikes with a buddy (both his, it was an early fly and
ride event) between a KX500 and an XL650 Honda (that's not a typo, an
XL). Therefore, I have some appreciation for you riding there on your
big bikes. Well, not Eric, he'll ride anything anywhere. But
especially you, being sort of, what's the word I'm looking
for..."short", that's it, well the big bike, the big hills, street
tires, very impressive. Wish I could have been there. A little
moisture would be very nice too.
Rode Pozo the few times I could get the time and had a couple spare
bucks to ride while I slogged through college, and really the first
"trail" place that I rode at and enjoyed. See all of the above
comments about riding at Ballinger. There's a reason why you're all,
like famous and shit on the internets. You rock.

You have a clear vision of heaven, I see.

Glad you're having fun Tami. Wish we could be there to share some of
it. I'm really looking forward to riding with you and listening to the
125 sing.
I'll stay healthy if you will. Talk to us when events have you heading
north later this year, Shasta, Oregon, anything like that.

Can't think of a single thing that wouldn't be made better by the addition
of a plate of bacon.

Very cool. I rode to work and back. A mixture of straight, two lane roads
and neighborhood roads.

And a happy birthday from me, too. You've got to be at least 30 now,
wow.

Donuts and bacon. Wow.. rides a bike and eats cop food.

I started drooling thinking about a new, big bike after reading your
reply, but then I remembered there are already 5 in the garage now.
Actually, 6, but the road couch isn't in the garage yet. Anyway, it's
about you, not me... so, again, happy birthday.

Hey! Speaking of remembering and Theresa, I sent her a birthday card
in February (said something about happiness being nothing more than
good health and a bad memory <G>)...then I started thinking that maybe
her birthday *wasn't* in February after all?
I thought maybe you guys figured I was all the way gone and just
decided to wash your hands of me before someone gets their eye poked
out or something <G> I hope it was happy...I mean, if it was her
birthday and everything...

Oh yeah...I knew that!

And ride it like a maniac. His front tire was gone, mine was new, and
he was *still* kicking my ass in the wet paved twisties. Jerk.
I kept thinking I was going to see him wedged under a guardrail,

Smart? Extremely talented? Young? Beautiful? Fast?

Oh.

Oh, we had moisture. Not so much at Ballinger, except for hidden
puddles that wanted to throw me to the ground, but Pozo was perfect!
We kept dropping down, down, down towards The Steps and it kept
getting wetter and wetter...and rockier...and steeper. I kept thinking
"this would be a really stupid thing to do if it weren't still so
early in the day..." <G>

Oh! Speaking of famous, I was contacted by some guy in the UK that is
writing a book on trailside adventurey repairs. Seems he ran across
some photos of someone's broken Pampera frame and wants to use the
story and photos in his book!
I know some smart engineery dude in WA that's going to be famous soon.
So the guy's, like "Have you ever broken anything else before?" I
snorted up my coffee pretty good on that one.

Ahem...it's a 144 (she says...rolling her eyes with her hands on her
hips...)

Oooh...I'd love to go north this year! Any chance you guys could come
south the end of this month? We're hosting a ...oh, never
mind...you're going to WUDI, aren't you? Crap...never mind.
Hey! There's always the summer! Eric has been banned from getting hurt
this year so we're planning on Idaho or Utah at some point.

Nope, you nailed it. Actually, I think it arrived a day late, but you
mailed it in plenty of time. The USPS has been pretty sucky lately.

It's all fun until that happens...don't want to miss any of the fun.

>I hope it was happy...I mean, if it was her birthday and everything...

I believe it was. It was pretty low key.

Rumor has it that he has some prior experience with that "pavement"
stuff. You probably shouldn't feel too bad.

> I kept thinking I was going to see him wedged under a guardrail,

While that would e pretty horrible, Eric's about the last guy I'd
expect to find there. At least now days. Maybe in his wild and crazy
youth.

Certainly all true and approprate, but not what I was looking for as
the source of my admiration in this case.

I didn't think you were going to be too thrilled with that. Sorry.

Sounds kewl. The trail down the steps is really fun, it was one of my
earliest trail riding epiphanies. I have VERY little experience at
Pozo that doesn't involve dust.
There is, or aat least was, a great little saloon in the town of Pozo
right across the street from the Forest Service station (where Theresa
worked quite a bit). Made more than a few late night trips back to SLO
from Pozo.
BTW Tami, there used to be a herd of wild horses in that area that the
F.S. was pretty careful to not make common knowledge just so they
wouldn't be harrassed. I have no idea if they are still there, but
they were spectacular back in the late 80's.

You can't keep a good story down. Remember when Craig Faison had some
guy back east tell him about it? Celebrity, Baby.

> I know some smart engineery dude in WA that's going to be famous soon.

I suppose it was bound to happen.
I'd like to thank all of the little people that have helped to make
this possible...
I hope nobody tries to do that themselves, breaks in half and gets
skewered then tries to sue me for it. I'd better alert the attorneys.

Is he just going to buy a ticket to come over and interview you over a
couple of weeks? He'd probably LOVE Eric.

Well EXCUSE ME!!!
How could I have been so crass?

Yep, WUDI bound. There's already rumors of a mess o' crawfish to
celebrate our arrival. Then we get a week of southern hospitality and
hopscotching around to ride different areas. It's gonna be sweet, if
we don't get killed by the freakin' weather.

Good call, banning Eric from getting hurt. He's always screwing up
plans like that.
Maybe you guys can come back and actually RIDE at Gifford Pinchot or
something...we'll talk more later.

Happy (belated) Birthday Tami!

(I knew that I ought not get too busy to check in more often.)

Good Riding!
