Does anyone know the details of Mike Brown's crash??

I just read about it in Cycle news and wanted to know the scoop.

Is he going to be ok? What about his leg?

And, what the hell did he hit to cut it off??

I believe they amputated it because it was beyond repair.

The short blurb on the local news, when it happened, made mention of
"amputating/severing the leg *in* the crash"......aarrgghh!

Motorcycle jumper Mike Brown (not to be confused with the Mike Brown
competing in the FIM World Championship 125cc MX Series in Europe) remains
in a coma in a Boise hospital following an unsuccessful attempt to land his
motorcycle onto two piggybacked flatbed trailers in Twin Falls, Idaho, on
June 4. The 38-year-old Brown, from Woodland Hills, California, was
performing at the Extreme Freestyle Motorcycle Air Jumping event at Magic
Valley Speedway when he came up short and slammed into the back of the
trailers. Brown suffered a severed leg in the accident, as well as
life-threatening internal injuries. Cards and letters can be sent to St.
Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, c/o Mike Brown, ICU, 1055 North Curtis
Road, Boise, ID 83706.

I usually don't buy rumours on the net like this, but Cycle News
reported that he was in pretty bad shape, and in a coma. Uwe, I hope
you are wrong.

In either case, may God be with him and his family...

Guys, this was snipped from racerx on 6/11.

Gods Speed Mike.

JS

Sadly, we must report that exhibition cycle jumper Flyin' Mike Brown (no
relation to Grand Prix rider Mike Brown) succumbed to injuries suffered from
a recent ill-fated jump attempt in Idaho. According to a few of our
colleagues who were in attendance at the freestyle event, Brown was
attempting to jump a world record 230 feet as part of a special halftime
feature put together by the event organizers. Utilizing a special landing
ramp that was said to be constructed from a flatbed trailer, Brown,
according to eyewitnesses, appeared to be coming up short on the landing,
when he bailed off the bike and landed at the very edge of the trailer. He
was taken to a local hospital and, due to serious injuries, was put on a
life support system, which didn't improve the fallen rider's medical
situation. Our hearts and prayers go out to the rider and his family.

This is an update on the condition of "High
Flying" Mike Brown. As of today Thursday July 14,
1999. Mike is no longer in a coma, he is alert
and awake. Mike has all his long term memory back
but is still struggling with his short term
memory. Mike did have his left leg amputated.
Mike is on the road to recovery, however, it is
going to be a very long road. Mike has numerous
injuries that will take time to heal. Although
Mike still has a trach in his throat he is
talking. Currently, Mike is still at Saint
Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise ID., but will
be transported via medical helicopter back to
Southern California for his long term recovery. A
recovery fund has been established for Mike.
Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so, the
fund is as follows: checks should be made payable
to Cassi Carbajal for Michael Brown or
Debi Colbert for Michael Brown and mailed to
Valencia Bank & Trust
23620 Lyons Avenue
Newhall, CA 91321
The Brown family would like to take this
opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude
to all those who have sent Michael cards, letters
and have kept Michael in their prayers. Please
keep the positive thoughts and prayers going for
Michael, he has a long road ahead of him but he
will make it thanks in part to all of you. As
soon as we have a new address for Michael in
Southern California it will be posted here. In

This is great news, but it's apparently an indication that I've "lost it"
completely. Wasn't there a post here a few weeks ago that stated he'd passed
away? Or was that just another "Seth's dead" rumor? Does my medication need
to be adjusted?

Wes that was me and my exaggerated reading of RacerX, they later retracted
the article about Mikes passing; And I am now broken of snipping articles
from any news source and reprinting it here. I'm glad to see he is doing ok
and wish him and his family well.

No, a published magazine incorrectly printing that somebody is dead would be
called moronic.

I think he was referring to the incident where Todd RumorMeister
mentioned, on RMD, that he heard a rumor that Jeffro was doing drugs,
Davey Coombs got his ass on his shoulders and blew it out of
proportion, and a whole bunch of stink was caused by Todd posting a
rumor.

The whole kicker was that Todd posted "THIS IS JUST A RUMOUR"
It all worked out good tho. Todd got to kiss^H^H^H^Hsmooze with
Jeffro at a race later that year.
