Congratulations to me, I have a new computer at work. However, I only
have Outlook at this point. I need a good, free newsreader.
Suggestions?

Thanks,
John

Use Mozilla Thunderbird - it's free and doesn't spread virus's.

Try this site:
http://www.tucows.com/windows.html
I've heard Forte Free Agent is a decent reader.

Yup. Free Agent is, well.... free and is very nice. A feature the full
blown Agent has that the free version doesn't is hotlinks. Doesn't
sound like much but you have to cut and paste a URL to check a site
someone posts.

Free Agent. It's the free version of, get ready for this, Agent.
None better. If you're downloading multi-part binaries, you may want
the full version. Otherwise, the Free version can't be beat. You can
get it from www.tucows.com or I believe their Web site is
www.forteinc.com.

John, e-mail me when you get a chance. I need to talk to you about
someone that's trying the trendy Internet swindle to get my TTR.

outlook express is easy to set up & get around in for news
if you don't do much other than RMD & simple email
it's hard to beat. just make sure you have a good anti virus
software installed on the system, and such.. I have a dummy
email address in my address book that starts with !00warning!!
this will bounce back to me if for some reason my PC decides
to email to everyone in my address book (about 9,000 folks)
did the system administrator set up the anti virus software to auto download
to a server on your network then install on clients or is it up to
individual computers to update? if it's up to individuals you might want it
to check every hour or so if you have the high speed net. or at lunch time &
evening if you have low speed stuff.
if you don't want to worry as much about viruses & such get an obscure
quirky
software that scripts haven't been posted for all to exploit "open" PC's
that said take the cd burner and back up the documents/ pictures you don't
want to have to type over or shoot again. then take the cd off site
depending on how often you change stuff burn more cd's (they are cheep....
25-50 cents)
assume the sucker is going to crash at the most in opportune time, & plan
for it.
I've tried forte (full version) and it was ok but I didn't think it was that
great
for just text based browsing Linux UNIX XENIX lindows win 95-xp are not much
different when it comes to holes in them for exploiting. as long as you
write a software for communicating then computers will share stuff and
during this sharing
you can do stuff, it's just that the folks that write virus's seem to have
it out for bill gates & his stuff so more stuff is written to bugger up his
works...
