Ok, so I go to change the plug on my XR400 (first time) and I don't have the
appropriate tool. So I bought the 18mm plug wrench from Motion Pro who said
it was made specifically for my bike. Well, either I don't know what I am
doing, or it is not the right size because it will not even fit into the
cylinder head recess. So then I decide to read my Clymer manual (I know, I
should have read this first, but I was just changing the damn plug. How
hard can it be!!) It said to change the plug you need a 14mm socket wrench.
What gives. Before I order the original wrench from ServiceHonda, or
better yet, sell the bike and go back to a 2 stroke where you can change a
plug with a bottle cap opener, can anyone enlighten me? Thanks,

Mario

Yah, I hear you. Both my wife's quad and my XR have odd spark plug sizes.
I always have to dig through all my metric deep wells to find the right
one. Good thing they are 4-strokes and I don't have to worry about foulin'
a plug on the trail.

I had the same thing happen to me. I was getting ready on Saturday for
a Sunday ride after all the shops had closed. I bought the plug, then
realized I couldn't get it out. I bought a regular Craftsman deep
socket and used a Dremel to take it down thin enough to get the plug
out. Took about half an hour. Looks ugly, works great.

Don't order a wrench. I'll get you one this weekend. Just zing me an
e-mail with your address and I'll put it in the mail on Tuesday.
