I've a 2002 Suzuki GS500 with less than 600 miles. It has the extended
warranty good until October 2006. I laid it down today. The only parts it
needs to be in top condition is: a new handlebar, plastic case around
speedometer and tachometer, and a headlight lens (bulb still works) and a new
adjustment ring (this one might be able to be straightened out). Amazingly,
no other damage to the bike. Runs great, nothing else warped, nothing bent.

E-mail me at captli...@yahoo.com, price is negotiable. Must sell now!

I hope you're not selling because you wiped out. If this was your first
crash, I understand your apprehension. Let things chill out for a week or
two and get back on. I fell off during the MSF course, badly injuring my
knee. I swore I would never get back on a motorcycle but once the swelling
went down and I was able to walk a few days later, my outlook changed. No
more crashes since then, but it happens to almost everyone. Just give it a
week or two.

I've been trying to sell it for the past couple of weeks. It's just a bit
too much bike for me right now. I will admit, it did shake me up a bit.
I've been trying to get into a MSF course, but the nearest one is over an
hour away and it's almost impossible to arrange to be off of work. I think
I'd like to get rid of this bike and get something more sedate. Thanks for
your words of encouragement. I'm not giving up totally. I'm just taking a
step back. I've been trying to learn a little too fast I think (no pun
intended).

Cheers!

For one, the crash damage on your bike is repairable. For two, take
your time learning. The only way to get comfortable is doing time.
Spend some time daily cruising around residential streets. Get
comfortable with the controls and throttle. Work your way up from
there. If necessary, spend several weeks doing residential and
uncrowded business streets. Take it easy, you are gaining experience.
If you can't get into the MSF, do some reading.

If you slow down a bit, I think you can use that GS500E as a good
learning truck.

However, if you really feel overwhelmed, there are a number of 250's
out there.
