I'm afraid I'm going oof topic, but
What exactly is a 'die-cast' model?
It sounds like someone has been throwing paint at them.

It's a metal casting process, first used for toy cars by
Dowst Brothers (Tootsietoys) around 1910. The metal is usually a zinc
alloy. Pre-WWII diecasts often had impurities in the metal which caused
"metal fatigue" -- the metal eventually cracked or crumbled into dust.
That problem persists with some newer models, like Russian toys from the
'70s.
Most of the famous toy and model cars of the present and recent past are
diecast: Dinky Toys, Matchbox, Corgi, Spot-On, Hot Wheels, Johnny
Lightning, Tootsietoys, Solido, Majorette, Bburago, etc.

Die-cast, i.e cast in a die. They make moulds and pour molten metal into
them. When it cools they just pop it out, paint it, and put stickers on
it.

Thanks to all who answered my question.
I seem to have confused die and dye. I thought it was some kind of
painting process.
Thanks again,
