OK..heres a new one.
Im working on Tamiya's Chamsmosuarus, and Im about to paint the tree
stump that makes up part of the diorama base.
Any suggestions on this? Ive worked the surface detail back into wet
Milliput, so Im ready to go on that, I just need input on the stump
color.
I would think that a brownish tan might work, but Im not real sure on
how to proceed?
Suggestions? Ideas? How about some RR guy's input?
Thanks in Advance.

David, I've noticed that "model" stumps, trees, etc are almost always a
brown color, in reality you almost never see brown trees, evergreens are
probably the brownest trees you see. But most of trees are shades of gray.
Just my $.02

How about using a real branch instead of the plastic one? I've always
used old twigs, etc for my trees, That takes care of the painting
problem...

No offense at all pal, but you sound kinda like me - rather ask on the computer
what a tree looks like than go out and look at one!! I mean Zero cockpit colors
ARE hard to come by, but trees . . . ;-)

But seriously, I think the gentleman was right who said shades of gray.
Especially with all that Jurassic volcano dust floating around! And it sounds
like a perfect opportunity to wash and drybrush. Tree bark (depending on the
tree) changes a LOT from the surface down. And how about some green model-car
seat-flocking for lichen?

I would also suggest giving the Milliput a few coats of Future or varnish, so
that you have a little more flexibility to paint and repaint.

Take a look at some trees in your yard, park, etc. to get some visual ideas on
color. I have painted trees two ways:
1. Spray the darker color on then follow with dry brushed highlights
2. Spray the lighter color then use a wash of the darker color(s)
They both work.
