Hasegawa has the best nose and canopy contours. Heller has the most detail
(e.g., speed brake). Best looking project is Hasegawa with KMC detail set,
with possibly some bits stolen from the Heller.

Heya Vit!
I guess that I agree with Jose' on this one. The Hasegawa
and extras would be the best build up, but I tend to go
with Out-of-the-box versions. In that case I'd go with
the Heller kit. I like having the added ability of mak-
ing an Aeronavale version.
If your desperate for dollars, you might want to consider
the Revell kit (put out just before the merger with Mon-
ogram). It really isn't all that bad, and was quite
inexpensive, and the detail was very good for the price.
I'm sure that there are numerous copies still floating
around on the shelves of hobby shops about the country.
At all costs, STAY AWAY FROM THE FUJIMI KIT!!! Although
it wasn't made by Combat Models, it is very nearly evil
incarnate. Well, if it isn't it's DEFINITELY a waste of
good styrene.
Hope this helps!

For what it's worth, I don't believe you can really make an F-8F from either
F-8E kit, as the F-8F's vertical stabilizer was a bit different from that of
the E (a bit taller, wasn't it?).
That said, I sure as hell can't tell the difference, so it's not really going
to stop me. And it is nice that the Heller kit has the French-only missile
rails. But overall I rather strongly favor the Hasegawa kit, as it has great
fit and finer (if not quite as extensive) detail.

Yech.
Only really good thing about it is that the smaller nosecone of the Esci F-8H
can be rather easily glommed onto the Hasegawa F-8E kit, making it possible to
build a nice-looking VF-111 Sundowners Crusader off the Superscale sheet.
The ESCI kits do have engraved panel lines, but they're inconsistent in depth,
and fit isn't so hot. Plus the ones I've seen are molded in silver, which
makes me a bit queasy. But I'm sure that with patience one could probably
build up a decent one (though I still think it would probably be easier to
just re-scribe the Hasegawa kit).

I think the designation of the Aeronavale Crusader is actually F-8E (FN),
isn't it? And it's the horizontal stabs which are larger - optional parts are
included in the Heller kit.

You're correct on all counts. So I imagine one could make a decent French F-8
from the Heller kit.
