Determining the pollution site severity (SPS) by collecting and analyzing pollution data, such as equivalent salt deposit density (ESDD), non-soluble deposit density (NSDD), leakage current, rainfall, humidity, wind speed, etc.
Selecting the appropriate part of IEC 60815 according to the type of insulator and system.
Using the tables and graphs provided in each part to find the required unified specific creepage distance (USCD), which is a parameter that indicates the minimum creepage distance per unit voltage that an insulator should have to withstand the pollution level at a given site.
Choosing an insulator that has a creepage distance equal to or greater than the USCD multiplied by the system voltage.
Verifying the suitability of the chosen insulator by performing tests or comparing with existing operational experience.
