I dont know any websites, but there are only two paint schemes, that I
am aware of, which F4U's wore during ww2. The early F4U's (the Island
based Marine units) Had a paint schemed compries of:
1 Insignia white
2 Intermediate Blue ( I think this color is also called "non-specular
sea blue", If I am wrong someone please correct me...)
3 Dark Sea Blue
The white was applied to the bottom of the fuselage and the bottom of
the wings. (Note: the bottom wings were only white to the point where
they folded, at this point the part of the wing outboard of the
folding point was Intermediate blue.
The Intermediate blue was applied to the sides of the fuselage/cowling
forward and aft of the wing and to the sides of the vertical
stabilizer and rudder.
Dark Sea Blue covered the top of the wings, horizontal stabilizers and
all parts of the fuselage not covered by the Intermediate blue.
Check out this Aeromaster Decal sheet graphic for paint scheme

climate........ I would definatley try and get some color photos of
some of these birds. Anyone have any ideas where some can be found?

Every reference I've seen show the underside outer panels intermediate
blue. IIRC, all surfaces that were more or less vertical on the ground,
including folded wings, were this colour.
