Hi folks,

I'm in the process of painting an Italeri F-5E/Tiger II, and have
unfortunately accumulated a number of fingerprints on the gloss paintjob...
I've tried gently (and not-so-gently) rubbing them out with paper towel and
cotton swabs, but no luck so far. Is there a sureshot way of getting rid
of them without damaging the paintjob?

Thanks in advance,

Hyun.

The finger prints should be made of skin oils.
Did you try a few drops of dish washing liquid in a cup of water, then dip the
papertowel in that?

Did the prints appear as you airbrushed, or did they come about
afterward by virtue of your handling the wet paint layer?
Also, was the paint acrylic or enamel?

It was the result of my handling semi-wet gloss paint (those gloss paints
sure dry a lot slower than flat ones!). Tamiya acrylic paints.

If that's the case, the only thing you can do is to carefully sand out
the fingerprint, and repaint that area. I'm afraid the paint is already
ruined.

You *may* be able to salvage the paint by polishing the fingerprints out
*if* you have enough paint on the surface. The LMG polishing kits with
very fine abrasive cloths (1800-12000 grit) that auto modelers use will
work well for this, but you could also try a fine automotive polishing
compound (a real abrasive polish, such as Meguairs No7 or similar, not
the wax/silicone protective coatings that may be labeled as a "polish"
but aren't really). Work slowly - if you wear through the paint you
have to re-paint at least the affected area.

Hi Hyun.
Did you try rubbing compounds 1000 or 5000?
Check with your local hobby shops
