Use of colour pastels for effect

I have recently completed a Sd KFZ 250/3 and used a powdwered artist
pastel of dark brown to provide that "well used in desert warfare"
effect. Looks good but my question is how and with want do I seal it so
that it retains this look?

Any help appreciated.

According to Sheperd Paine's book on how to build dioramas, the best coat
is *no coat at all.* Spraying any kind of fixative over the pastels may
make them clump up, spoiling the effect. Paine suggests that you affiix
the model to a permanent base first, then use pastels as the final step.
After that, don't touch the model itself -- pick it up by the base.

I've airbrushed flat and clear coats (e.g. Micro Flat) over
models weathered with pastels...
