Forgive me for asking but I don't trust my own judgement ~_^

Which colors do you use for painting the splinter camo pattern for 1944
fallschirmjager divisions?
It would be great if you could give me the Vallejo equivalent.

I have the Gunze-Sanyo numbers which are on the Dragon box. I have tried to
convert these to Vallejo numbering but I can't find any good conversion
tables.

Any info would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

I use Humbrol when I'm not using oils so all I can give you is the
Humbrol colors. There are three different splinter patterns, one with
a tan base, one with a kind of pale lime green base and one with a
darker mustard base color.
For the tan base I use 187 desert tan or 72 Khaki Drill for the base,
161 USMC green for the green and 160 Camo brown for the brown. I might
lighten the camo colors or enrich them with their primary bases too,
but usually I do that as part of the weathering after it's painted.
For the lime green, I use 94 desert yellow mixed with a touch of
light green like 80 grass green. Stay away from more drab greens. You
want a green that is close to a true green, with a strong blue/yellow
presence. I use the same colors as before for the brown and green
splinters.
The mustard variant is the same as the lime green, minus the light
green/tan mix. In other words, just straight 94 desert yellow for the
base.
I wish I could translate that all into Vellejo colors, but I have
never used them. This may be more help. You can mix a good africa
yellow using primary colors by mixing white and yellow, then a touch
of red (it doesn't take much at all so be careful) and a touch of
black. You can take that color to a good flesh tone if you add a
little more red and a bit more white as needed, BTW. keep bringing in
the black, in small amounts, if it needs to gray out a little. For
more of a khaki tan, use less red or none at all. Add a touch of a
green and some white if you want to lime it up. For Green try mixing a
standard green from blue and yellow, then adding red and/or black and
then adjusting it with more blue or yellow as necessary. For brown,
try red, black and a touch of yellow, then add some blue or green
maybe. You can add white too to help gray the colors out, but be
careful. You'll have to experiment with these mixes to get the result
you're looking for.
That's the best I can do. Someone else may be able to help with the
vellejo specifics, or more exact mixes.

Thank you very much for the reply.

This certainly gives me something to hold on to. I also have a lot of
humbrol paints. Maybe I still have all the colors you mentioned. I'm gonna
start painting tonight and see where I will end up :)

Thanks again.

It took me a bit to find my notes but Heer splinter and FJ splinter are
the same. With Vallejo use the following:

Base: 821 German camo beige
Green: 969 park green flat (very bright) or 968 flat green
Brown: 825 pale violet brown
splinters: 980 black green

Keep in mind that Luftwaffe personnel usually had brown leather bits and
any webgear of drill material tended to be an olive/khaki shade. Do not
use Field Blue for Luft uniforms, use Luftwaffe Blue instead.
