I recently purchased an ESCI 1/9m scale BMW R75 solo. Every picture that I
have found, except one, show this machine fitted with a sidecar. I would
like to have a go at scratch building one, although there are some very
subtle curves involved. Does anyone know where I can get some decent
plans/dimensions of the sidecar?

Thanks
Mark

This kit was originally released with a sidecar. Seems like a lot of make-work
to scratchbuild one. Still, if you want to take that route, Schiffer published
a book on German wartime motorcycles. Go to their webpage and take a look.

FWIW, there's more fabrication there than you'd imagine. The third
wheel is 'driven' and there's a trunk in the rear, not to mention all
those compound curves. Why don't you save yourself the bother and just
buy the kit with a sidecar?

This thing was sold at least four different ways:

1) the solo you've got (I assume it's a grey Wehrmacht military
version.)

2) tan Afrika Korps military version *with sidecar*

3) grey Wehrmacht military version *with sidecar* (I presume the
difference between these two is only the color in which they're molded.)

4) Black civilian version *with sidecar*.

The last, molded in black with appropriate chrome parts, has brown seats
and lovely gold and white pinstriping decals. If you're doing a
military version, just hit eBay. They're not too rare. Search for
"Aurora" kits as well. For that matter, there was a Zündapp with
sidecar in this series, too. It would probably adapt pretty easily.

Thanks for the feedback. I picked up the solo version on eBay at a
reasonable price, in the UK the versions with the sidecar don't come up to
often and command premium prices. Its a shame that Dragon didn't release
the sidecar versions of both the BMW and the Zundapp a couple of years ago.
I believe these were limited editions and are now becoming hard to find, at
least in the UK, prices around £45 ($64.) I remember building the Zundapp
when it was first released back in 1974, about 60% of the tooling i.e. the
sidecar and wheels were common to the BMW and Zundapp. I have found the
following sites showing the full size machine:
http://www.bmw-r75-wh.de/english/austausch_en.htm
http://www.wehrmachtsgespann.de/bmwenglisch/index.htm

I am masocistic enough to have a go at scratch building a sidecar although I
shall finish the solo machine first.

P.S . Hannants have this listed as a future release. Italeri IT7401 1:9
Harley Davidson US Army WWII ,I assume it's a reissue of the 1973 ESCI
model.

It is.

And hopefully the other DML bikes didn't re-issue will follow. And I'm really
hoping for the 1/9 Kübelwagen as well.

Terrific! I never did get my hands on the R75 w/sidecar.

I did get the KS750 w/sidecar when AMT/Etrl released under the 'Blueprinter'
program.

Thanks Martin.

Thanks for the information, I wonder if this will flush out all those that
have been stashed as future investments. I shall look out on eBay for the
"rare an unusual 1970's model" before the release. I wonder if Santa will
drop the Zundapp down my chimney?
