Halloo all,

Does anyone by chance know whether there are any
conversion for the Academy 1/350 Titanic model ?? I am interested in
converting one to the younger sister, Britannic, and wanted to see if
perhaps anyone knew about a conversion kit..

Regards

Hey Don,

I'm not sure but that the kit doesn't model one of the later ships
anyway but there was also 'something' to do with the promenade deck
being fully enclosed or covered or somesuch on T vs. the Brit and
Olympic.

Internally of course there were MASSIVE differences as the other ships
got double hull layers and compartmentalization that went right up to
the top decking (I /think/). Don't know if this added to the exterior
form or not...

RMS Olympic had a completely open promenade deck. However, passengers
complained about sea-spray, so RMS Titanic and later HMHS Brittanic were
built with 2/3 open promenade decks.

Further, Brittanic and Olympic had super-davits installed after the Titanic
disaster. These were located aft of the bridge.

I'll look into the other exterior differences, as there are more.

I know that Olympic didn't have the large boat cranes Britannic had, but there
are actually a large number of diffrences. If I remeber, I will dig out 2 web
site adress, one for the conversion, and one about the external diffrences.
BTW, if you want to build Britannic, you'll have to find a way to lengthen the
hull, as Titanic was 886 feet 9 inches long, while Britannic was 903 feet long.

That´s interesting, I was thinking of building the Britannic this summer
but I never digged so deep in the facts yet. This would meen that an 350
scale kit has to be lenghtend by 14mm, were on the ship should it be
inserted?

If you guys are serious about converting the kit into Britannic, I have a
zipped article from an old modeler mag that has photos and detailed
instructions on how to do the conversion. I also have one for Olympic.
Yours for the taking, request by email.

Later,
Dennis

I've given up on trying to email you...with and without nospam, the mailbot
sends it back. PLEASE go to
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/6516/titanic.html the best site on
the Web for Titanic modelling. The first page has an email link to Sean,
the site creator. Let him know what you have. I'm sure he'll be interested.
And if you Really Want To Make Friends Fast, go to his Message Board 2 (the
first got full!) and let the regulars know what you have. A lotta people on
those boards have already been looking for what you've just described.

You know, as often as I have been to Sean's website, I've never thought
about posting these. WOW, guess I wasn't thinking, huh? Sorry you couldn't
get through to my email, several others have responded and got through just
fine. ???

If anyone else has information or better still: experience, on
converting a Titanic model to any of the sisters Britannic or Olympic,
then please get in touch.

To change the RMS Titanic to the HMHS Britannic, you need to find boat davits, redo the stern(back) of the ship, recolor her, add loads of weathering, search on the web, loads of time, a Titanic model(Not Olympic, it won't work!!!), and be a very skilled modeler!!!!!

You realize you are answering a question that was asked twenty years ago next month?

Rob, if the original poster is like me he might still have it on his to-do list. ;-)
