Best reference for this is Verlinden Lock-On number 13. I don't know
if it's still in print - check with VLS at http://vls-vp.com. If they
do have it I'd recommend STOPPING all work on the model until you get
the book because it details absolutely everything possible and more!!
Yes, basically the cockpit is black BTW.

I have some pics of an Apache with open doors and you can see a fair bit of the
cockpit. The area you're asking about is indeed black. So's most of the rest of
it actually. If you want the pics, let me know.

cockpit is various shades of matt black. I would not be afraid to drybrush
the floor and side consoles with flat silver. The rest of the cockpit is
kept fairly clean with little paint chipping. If you decide to give the VDU
screen in the back seat and the ORT screen in the front cockpit a "sheen"
it would be blackish green. Most switches are silver and all dials are
black. There is extensive writing in white, but I dont think this is
normally visible on your model. There are black folding screens made of
some kind of vinyl located at the bottom of each side canopy that stretch
over to and velcro to the instrument panel (no one uses these that I know
of). There is a doppler display on the front right console of the front
cockpit that displays green digits.
Exterior colors of the aircraft vary not only from aircraft to aircraft,
but on the aircraft itself. You will notice that the color is slightly
greener than olive drab and definitly darker. Xtracolor paint has a color
called U.S. Army Helo Green which is pretty close yet once again just about
any shade will do. Oil, JP8, and hydraulic fluid frequently seap, spray,
and flow (and not necessarily in that order) out from under the engines or
stream out the rear of the transmission deck discoloring the aircraft
towards the tail.
Serials are more a dark grey than black.
The blades are black almost grey and it would be best to use photos to
paint the various parts of the mast, most of which is black.
good luck,

Excellent response. It should be added to all the pertinant FAQs since
this question comes up about every two minutes. :)

> I forgot to add that inside the AH-64 cockpit there is some color. Yellow
is used on the canopy jettison handle located on the upper left of the
instrument panel. It is also used at the chop collar located under the
grip on the collective stick. There are other areas that yellow and red
are used but best to use Verlinden Photos or other resorses. Also tthe
seats are black with small white dots. The overall effect is dark grey
from a distance.
