Does anybody know if any company has released a kit of the USS
Baltimore class heavy cruisers? Either the class or ship specific
(Baltimore, Boston, Bremerton, Canberra, Cicago, Colombus, Fall River,
Helena, Los Angelers, Macon, Pittsburgh, Quincy, St. Paul and Toledo).
The larger the scale the better (I'd like a 1/350 if it's out there).
WWII US Warship kits seem to be rare, or is it just me? Thanks. :)

There are currently 2 Baltimore class cruisers available,
USS Baltimore and USS Pittsburg, both very high quality 1/700 resin kits
by Waveline of Japan. Revell used to offer a Baltimore class in about
1/500 scale as I remember, but it's pretty hard to find now. I also
remember that Gulfstream or Commander Models was going to release a
1/350 Baltimore class, but I don't know what's become of that project.
Thanks, Bill Gruner. Pacific Front Hobbies

JSC of Poland makes a 1:400 scale card model of the Helena, $5 plus
shipping from Poland (also probably available from PMI in Oregon.)
Quite a few WWII USN ships of cruiser size and larger are available as
card models, but there's a real shortage of DDs and smaller vessels.
(And the number of models available certainly doesn't reflect the relative
number of vessels commissioned in the USN in WW II, vs. the DKM, IJN, or
even the RN.)

available mail order from Bill Gruner in the US at Pacific Front Hobbies. He is
available at <pacf...@accessone.com> and also takes credit card payment...BTW,
re American cruisers, the Indianapolis is also available from Classic in 1/350

I have the 1/700 Waveline Baltimore, and it's really nice; I assume that
their Pittsburgh is too (just a few differences between the two ships,
like one aircraft crane instead of two).

Is the card model out there of the famous light cruiser Helena (Brooklyn
class) that was sunk in 1943 orof the later heavy cruiser named for her?

The Classic 1/350 Quincy is of the New Orleans-class heavy cruiser sunk at
Savo Island, not of the later Baltimore-class heavy cruiser named after
her.

I really hope that Gulfstream or Iron Shipwrights will still do that 1/350
Baltimore, but I don't know the present status of that. Jon?

That's my two cents (and it's worth about that).

[I hate following up my own posts, as it usually means I opened my big
mouth too soon...]

I looked through my collection at home, and I have this model. It's
definitely the light cruiser, commissioned c. 1939, sunk 1943. Sorry.
(I'd rather it were the heavy cruiser, myself...)
