They will only stick to a matte finish (not like in scandanavian)

I second that. I've always applied the pastels after I've sprayed on
the final coat of matt varnish. I use a felt stump and a camel hair
brush to apply them.

YES! Polly Scale Flat rules!

After you've applied the pastels, I'd recommend sealing them with Pollyscale
Flat, as well. But experiment first. I've never had a problem, but some
people feel this changes the coloration of the pastels in a negative manner.

I've heard of some people using hair spray, used in a "mist" far away from the
subject, will seal the pastels. No, this isn't another "lady modeler" trick --
it was from a friend of mine who had gone to an art school. It was one of the
tips the teacher gave the students.

Great idea. Now we will be able to trace the fingerprints of the judge who

I scrape my pastels on sandpaper to get a fine dust. Then I dip
my paint brush in thinner appropriate for the paint used, mix it
with the pastel dust and apply it to the model. The pastel blends
into the paint. I usually follow this with a clear coat. Since
the pastels went on wet, there is no surprise change of color
when the clear coat goes on.
