Hmmm...sounds good! I'll have to try that! I usually don't eat while
modeling cuz I always get paint or glue on my fingers, but I will enjoy an
ice cold can of Coke, Dr. Pepper, or as you said, high-sugar iced tea. That
stuff can keep you awake for a while! And it's got taste as well!

i am a heavy drinker, no not beer but iced tea. i like the sugar free liptons,
i drink about 9 quarts of iced tea a day as i am 16 and i dont work besides
selling resin accessories so i litterally spend 14-16 hours a day in my
"world"...i am a cellar dweller and thats why my company is called Cellar
Dweller Productions(members.aol.com/flatland15/main.html)...my favorite food
when modeling is homemade bread in the bread machine with butter...i devote so
much time to modeling it is unreal, i eat breakfast lunch and sometimes dinner
down there but i have my iced tea and bread as a snack

Hi:

Usually lots of water and diet coke.

Sometimes to wash down the crow I'm eating or the turkey I'm building. Ah,
but there's that one that turns out right.

Nothing...absolutely nothing. This is a result of not noticing I had
dunked a paint brush in my cup of tea and getting a solid slug of Earl
Grey with thinners.

Lots of water. Sometimes nuts, peanuts mostly but I try not to eat as I
build because I don't want to get any oils on any almost finished
models. Also I've almost put some interesting things in my mouth while
modeling and eating at the same time.;)

P.S. M&M's are great but not very healthy to eat all the time!

I don't eat while modeling, but I do TALK to myself. It's like I can do
something precise much better if i sustain a running commentary - as though I'm
explaineng to someone how to do it: "OK, now hold the knife REALLY steady and
bring the straightedge up to IT; good! Now, with almost no pressure...."

I wouldn't understand myself wif my mouffull.

Bread is great when you're modeling. Just stick it in your mouth and
breath through it while you're airbrushing -- who needs a respirator
mask? And when you're done airbrushing, just eat the bread!

Let see, my favorite drinks during modeling are a glass of root beer (IBC or
Barqs, not that Pepsi Mug stuff) or a large glass of Tang. Tang is
appropriate, considering I mainly do sci fi and realspace stuff. No food
though, I go downstairs and eat something if I really get the munchies.

My particular favorite is sunflower seeds. I put a big wad in my
cheek, then one by one, I take the shell off and spit it out, then
after doing that, one by one eat them. One cheek full can usually
last me a good hour or two, and keeps me from inadvertently eating a
model part or getting my hands dirty by fingering foods. Of course,
the seed eating can't be complete without a big glass of Dr. Pepper,
ice cold.......

I like to eat potato chips as they leave such a nice oily residue on the
plastic although for some reason when I airbrush it doesn't come out so good.

Wide straw, lots of suction.

Thinking of a venturi effect by attaching the straw to the airbrush compressor,
but the velocity of the peanut could be a problem.

With the toxicity of resins and their accompanying chemicals I'm thinking of
getting a NBC suit.

Favorite food while modeling? Uhmmmm, coffee (black, no sugar or cream)
and maybe some munchies - nothing greasy - leaves nasty prints on the
surfaces. Also, depending on the mood, classical music (Beethoven,
Mozart, Tchaicosvky, Reba, Queen, Led Zeppelin, etc.) - or the talk
shows (Dr. Laura, Rush, etc.). And of course, can't leave out my
regular Dominican cigar.

Hello!
One of you mentioned that coke might work as a wash. Well, it doesn't, it
has such a high number of acids that if you left coke on plastic it would
most likely disolve it in time.
What comes to eating while modeling, hmmm...
I very rarely do that, but sometimes I have a sandwitch and a glass of
orange juice, and sometimes I even model on the dinner table(you know, hold
parts while they're drying, etc..) heh he :o)

Mike,
Was on vacation in Puerto Rico several weeks ago and my daughter took me
to a cigar store called the Doll House. I purchased two vintage 1984
"A.Fuetes Gran Reserva" for about $22 each, two Ashton Cabinets for
about $17 each and one Davidoff encased in an aluminum and cedar veneer
tube for about $15, - all Dominican that's all I could afford. On the
other hand, she bought about $800 worth of smokes for some of the
doctors where she works (contrary to popular believe, doctors do
smoke.) A box of the A.Fuentes, one box of Cohiba's and an assorment of
loose cigars.

One intersting point was that the A.Fuentes are made from Cuban tabacco
seed, grown in the Dominican Republic. I am not a cigar conosieur, I
just like a good smoke every once in a while - and at those prices, it
is a long once in a while. The saleslady said that the quality of these
cigars is just as good as an original Cuban cigar - I would not know.
Anyways, off I go to my workshop, I have an A.Fuentes waiting.

Any Islay malt or the Macallan. Lagavullin's probably my favourite
though.

I don't drink while modeling, but while watching the paint dry, I enjoy very
much either a distinct sherryish Macallan or a cask strength Islay with some
water.

Marcus,
I have tried it thrice, straight up, with cold Perrier and Perrier with
one ice cube. However, straight up does taste better. And now that we
are on the topic of fine spirits, has anyone of you tried Ron del
Barrilito Three Stars? Of the Puerto Rican rums, that is the best. The
Three Stars is aged for about 10 to 12 years, to the point of almost
being a brandy. And like a good single malt, you sip it. While on
vacation a few weeks ago, I visited the Barrilito destillery and
acquired three 750ml bottles of this liquid amber.

It is recomended in some circles to dilute a single malt <slightly>
with water to prevent the streangth of the spirit from overwhelming
your taste buds to the point where you miss the subtleties of the
flavour. Never could see that, really. Tried it and it seemed to do
the opposite.

A little bit o' the pure is good accompaniment for perusing
catalogues, just don't <order> under the influence, you might end up
with a SMER in your mail box!

Reccomended :

Lagavulin 16 year old Islay Malt , (more character than the MacAllan
which is much too polite.)

Basil Hayden Kentucky Bourbon, <Damn> fine whiskey, complex, great
flavour.

A fine choice sir, although I'd have to disagree that the Macallan is
too polite. Reserved, I'd say. Perhaps sved for those quiet, introvert
moments when one sits back to admire the latest masterpiece (and before
you suddenly realise you've got the undercarriage torque links on
backwards). Still one man's malt is another man's acrylic thinner ;-)
or should that be #-)

Is it available in the UK?

I can recommend Bushmills and The Jameson as fine Irish whiskies.

Great idea! Well I said my fave was a couple of peanut butter and honey
sandwiches. But if it's the night before a contest and I need to burn the
midnight oil to finish some things, I'll throw some Nestle's chocolate chips on
to them. About a good handful. From across the room, like "buckshot". Yum!

So just to recap. . . . you eat peanut butter, honey and chocolate chip
sandwiches? You must have guts like a cement mixer! I do enjoy a long tall
glass of cold coke with just a splash of JD in it (enough that you can taste
it, not enough that it bites- i save *those* JD and cokes for a Friday night
after 10 or 12 pints!)

Yes, water, but no ice! I agree with you concerning Islay whiskies and water,
mostly water seems to spoil the salty taste - so it is not recommended trying
to dilute that expensive spirit in order to enjoy it for a longer time ... But
many other highlands in fact improve their taste with a drop of water. And a
60%+ cask strength whisky will burn out your insides if not diluted with water.

Don't compare apples with peaches - if you like roughness, drink Islay or
Sky<, if you like smoothness and sherryish taste, drink Macallan.

Have you ever calculated how man bottles of Lagavulin you get for a 1/32
Tornado kit with all Paragon add-ons?

I stand rightly chastened. Just as you cannot compare Champange to to
a good Burgandy you can't compare an Islay to The Macallan. Different
animals all together. Given the price of the above mention kit and add
ons you have single handely justfied the purchase of another bottle of
Lagavulin! God, I love this hobby/NG!

Anyone who knows a member of MAMA,, (maryland automotive modelers assoc.) knows
the BEST modeling food is BROWNIES. On the side of a car model box should read
" Glue, paint and Brownies needed to complete this kit" Also I too enjoy JD &
coke, but if I drink and build my projects come out funny looking.

Let it sit for a few minutes and it doubles as filler putty :)

For those inclined to scratch build you could also go for a Homebrew.

Actually, there are theraputic values in using low dose (<2 oz) of a good
single Malt (Dalwhiney is an example) while modeling and finishing
projects. The single malt helps block receptor sites that could take up
noxious fumes from paints, thinners, cyanoacrylics, etc. Or maybe not...but
it does seem to help.
