Hello all!

It's been some time since I've ordered from Flight Systems, Inc. (9300
East 68th Street, Raytown, Missouri 64133 USA). Recently, I've tried
unsuccessfully to reach them at the same number that's in the FAQ
(816) 566-2011. Perhaps this is just an outgrowth of the incessant area
code changes which are currently plaguing our nation but it made me
wonder if they were still in business. They were very helpful in the
past so I'd like to keep in touch with them.

Does anyone know what's up?

Thanks!

They're gone.

They've been gone for at least three years. I don't know why or where. But
my last contact with them was in May of 94

Hi,

As I understand it, and I hope others can correct the errors as FSI
deserves it, the founder died several years ago. His kids got the
company and sold it (or interests in it) to some investors in (I
think... ) Ohio. The new group tried to make a run of it, and failed.
The company is now defunct.

I got a kit produced in the 'new investors' period and the quality of
parts was abyssmal. Not at all like the days of old. And I saw posted
on here earlier this year that the motor-producing equipment was sold to
Quest.

It's a shame to see such a great company disappear into obscurity like
this. Someone with more money than sense really ought to buy the name
and kits and patents and make another go of it.

"Bringing professionalism to model rocketry." That, and
incompatible-with-Estes-motors kits. RIP

The names get real confusing, but I'll try.

FSI was founded by someone named "Roose" (met them at a NARAM).

FSI was bought by Lonnie Reese. Lonnie died (in a car accident?)

FSI was then run by father, Larry Reese (may have Lonnie and Larry switched?)

FSI ran into some legal problems due to one of their employees. The owner
claimed they would try to restart the firm, but that was a year or two ago at
this point.

I believe it was George Roose.

In a motorcycle accident

There was a Harold Reese, old guy with bad ears (from too many F100's
exploding while packing the powder, is what i heard) I don't know if
he was Lonnie's father or grandfather. He died sometime in the past
five years.

Doug Pratt could fill in anything important that I've missed or
misstated.

George Roos? Ran FSI out of Colorado.

Lonnie was killed racing midgit cars. Mid 80's?

Larry was his brother. Harold was the father.

I've heard rumours of the motor facility doubling as an illegal drug lab.

Doug Pratt worked for FSI back inthe 70's and could probably fill in much
more details.

That makes sense. Set up a drug lab in a facility subject to federal law
enforcement inspections.

FWIW, Flight System's address, phone number, etc. were deleted from the FAQ a
long time ago. This is what the current version of the FAQ says about FSI:

Flight Systems, Inc. OUT OF BUSINESS

My grandfather's name was Harold. My Uncle's name is Larry.

The company wasn't the same after Lonnie passed. Harold ran it for a while and they finally decided it was time to move on. NO DRUG LABS!!! NO STUPID EMPLOYEES!

Anyway, no one may ever read this but please always check and double check your facts before going all willie nillie. Sometimes it can effect the family.

Very sorry about the mis-information. In those early internet days we depended on the old established rumor mills. Whichever rumor had the best legs was the story we went with. Of course nowadays you can have the facts confirmed by fifty different sources and the rumors will still persist.

We were heartened a few years ago when Dave Bucher and his friend bought the assets of FSI and showed photos of the old rusted equipment on Facebook, and we were hoping for a full return of FSI. Unfortunately Dave died a year and a half ago. His partner is attempting to market the Black Brant kit soon. We shall see.
