Can anyone post updated information on launch areas in NoVA (preferably
Fairfax)? I've been out of the hobby for about 20 years but want to get
back into it with my kids. Is it legal to launch rockets from public parks
or schools? I just want to start with low powered rockets and there are
some parks near me that I think would be large enough for them. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

NOVAAR's got a launch going on TODAY, Saurday, Aug. 31. It's free & all are
welcome, come on down. I'll be there with a blue Subaru station wagon with DC
tags. Stop by & say hi if you make it.
Their site is:

http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/8561/

Directions to field (Great Meadows Equestrian Center in The Plains, Va.):

Directions to the flying field:
a.. Travel on I-66 to The Plains Exit #31
b.. South on Old Tavern Rd. (Rt. 245) to Great Meadows;
c.. Enter gate 1 on left side of road;
d.. Take the first left (immediately after you enter the Great Meadows
property), which is a gravel road
e.. Then take the first gravel road on the right, this will take you to the
launch area.
f.. Park in appropriate areas

Don't wait till the late afternoon to show. This club sometimes packs it in if
people have run out of engines. -- Richard "about to pull the car around,
double-park, & throw the stuff in the car" Hickok

This post would be really valuable if it had say the next 3 launch dates
for each site and links to the clubs or directions.

Opinion, the whole thing. <mail to:01ro...@gte.net>
Please bring common sense back to rocketry administration.
Produce then publish.

Jerry -

Just let me know what date you want to launch & I will find you the
best place to go.

For anyone familiar with the area, you already know that all of the
sites listed are probably closer to you than the nearest HP site is to
Jerry.

I want to come out in October for 2 weeks and fly my ass off. Where and
when?

You'll need to go to Alaska to fly that ass off. 8-)

There was no s after date and make sure it's on a weekend. My
reccomendation for October is DARE 2 10/4-6
http://www.detripoli.org/launch_dates-frame.htm
You can even use your own motors on 10/4.

If you're willing to drive an hour north to Frederick, MD, let me
invite you to the NARHAMS annual night launch on September 14. It's
one of my favorite events, and a great place to bring the family.
Links with details are on the Launch Calendar page at
www.pratthobbies.com.

Between NARHAMS, NOVAAR, the Reston club, HPR launches in Culpeper and
Maryland's Eastern Shore, there's a lot going on around here!
