I heard from a pretty reliable source this weened that young Mr. Hyde was
caught snorting something other than nasal spray at the NATS and JR
promptly pulled all it's sponsorship. Anyone else catch wind of this?

I really can't comment other than I did hear a rumor, a third hand
rumor at best, about the "nose candy" incident. Being a third hand
rumor, I took it for what it was worth. In my opinion, it's not much.
I have heard similar rumors before and I really don't know if there is
any truth to them or not. All I know is that Chip didn't fly as well
as he has in the past and that the reason that his mechanic gave was a
problem with the airplane that they were not able to solve. If these
rumors are true, or not, they will become obvious soon.

Please remember that rumors are a dime a dozen. For what ever reason;
spite, jealousy or otherwise, someone feels compelled to start a
potientially harmful rumor about an individual, it is a rumor and nothing
more, unless you have personal knowledge or experience otherwise. Well
known people like Chip are easy targets.
Chip has been a friend for a long time, and I seriously doubt he would be
dumb enough to get caught doing somthing like that. I have never seen it.

What is relavent to this message board and Chips reputation is his
ability. I have competed with Chip in pattern, TOC, pylon racing, and we
have just gone sport flying togeather. What he is, is the most natural and
talented pilot I have ever seen or flown with. He has proven that many
times in competition. Please remember the facts and not some gossip from
the good old "Rumor Mill"

The subject of this newsgroup is to discuss and sharing information about
models. Anybody that fills compelled to spread rumors should find a
different group. I imagine that most people understands what this means.
But for the moron that started with this subject I will translate. What I
really mean is stick to the subject or get the shut up.

Models, really? Christie Brinkley? I thought this group was a forum for
discussions about splitting the group, or AMA v. SportFlyers, or Selling

model industry, and those people who are involved in it sometimes get
mentioned for good or ill. It is unfortunate that someone posted this
"rumor". I doubt the validity of the post as there was no verifiable
factual information included with it. I am guessing that most people
noticed this glaring point as well. That does not, however, give you a
personal right to try to censor the postings on the group. Most people
would rather do that themselves. I resent the fact that you are trying to
bully someone into thinking your way. The poster might have really thought
they were posting something that was of interest to the group. In fact, if
the posting proved to be true (as yet not the case). I would think it
worthy of posting. Criminal activity of any sort should be brought into
the light and the perpetrator soundly ridiculed by their peers!

This flame is for taking a holier-than-thou attitude and trying to censor
this group to your will.

I agree with Mathew 100%. This so called rumor is more to the point than a
100 kids trying to sell their lousy toy cars on this forum daily.

Incidentally, someone published a very long apology and retraction
regarding this "rumor" on AOL today. He claims he has been "contacted" by
parties relevant to the issue. I guess someone threatened to sue him...

3 weeks) and the alternate is taking his place.

I was also informed that JR has either pulled it's sponcership of Chip, or
will not be renewing the contract. Keep an eye on the magazines, and see
whose face starts showing up in thier ads.

A call to the US FAI F3A world team manager should confirm this.

I wonder if any of our magazines will cover this story, in detail. (I doubt
it)

Thanks for your comments Mike. I appreciate you adding a mature perspective
on things in this news group. Some of the comments being posted here sound
quite the opposite of mature.

Cheers!

Please, don't do this. The team manager lives, and has a business, in
Pensicola, FL. Pensicola was hit hard by hurricane Erin and I imagine
that he is quite busy trying to clean-up after Erin and get the team
over to the Worlds. I believe they will be leaving for the worlds in
the next two - three weeks. Don't call the team manager, he has more
important things to take care of.

If the magazines did cover this, what would they say. The model
magazines are concerned about modeling. AMA would publish probably
publish something through Model Avaition. I can think of several
reasons, like violating the safety code or any rule, or precedent,
concerning allowing the team selection commitee to disqualify a team
member.

I'll be honest. I really don't care to know, nor do I want to pry
into anyones personal life. While all this stuff about Chip may or
may not be true, the fact of the matter is that I really don't care.
Not that I don't have some compassion for people with these kinds of
problems, because I do. Personally, If Chip really does have a drug
problem, I hope that he gets help for it. IMHO, in the basic scheme

of life, flying model airplanes is relatively unimportant. Sure, I
love flying as much as anyone on the net; however, it takes a back
seat to my family and job. It's from that perspective that I look at
this.

To you and I, and most people flying, this is true. Not so for him however.
Flying is all he does, it is all he has done since he was about 8 years
old. Success came early to him, and with the success came money and a lot
of people always telling him 'you're the best'.

By all accounts, he did not handle it well. Gambling under age in certain
well known PINK casinos, alchohol, drugs, marital problems etc etc etc.

Hey, my wife made me say it. If you ask her, she thinks I fly too
much now. Of course, IMNSHO, I really never get to fly enough. ;-)

My wife thinks that flying is a lot better than bowling, playing poker,
or bar hopping like some guys do. She figures I can't get into too
much trouble standing out at the edge of a sybean field all evening :)

It's unfortunate.. but it's not a rumor.. Chip is off both the F3A
(pattern) and F3D (pylon) teams for the world champs.. I have met Chip
many times.. and each time he has been very friendly. It's really not
necessary to drag this out people.. Let's just hope he can get himself
straightened out. Enough said.
