Hello All,
Yesterday, several attempts at knife edge flight with the Sig
Hogbipe. Rolled to right side, kick in left rudder and it would
be in knife edge stance for like a second, then it would like..
jump up and roll back left. looked like an outside snap roll to
left. Never had that happen before, what the heck is going on
here? Bottom wing has 1/4 degree negative incedence, top has
1/2 deg. negative in relation to horiz. stab. Saito 91 for
power. Climbs too much with advancing throttle, but thats
another problem i think i can fix with more downthrust. But the
knifedge thing has me confused. Can someone help me on this?

How much dihedral is in a Hogbipe? Yaw input with a large dihedral will
roll it in the direction of the yaw. It amounts to a barrel roll, could
be what you interpret as a snap.

Hello Don,
The Hogbipe has 6 degrees Total dihedral in bottom wing, top
wing is flat. And yes your right, big fast barrel roll. hummmmm..
Thanks for your reply.

The Hogbipe has both roll and pitch coupling with rudder due to dihedral in
lower wing, wing incidence, decalage between wings and stabilizer, position
of thrust line, and several other factors. If you want to knife edge without
three control inputs (rudder + ail. to stop roll + elev to stop pitch)
you'll need a radio that has three axis mixing like the JR8103. It takes
some trail and error but it can be done. Took me about seven flights to get
mine to knife edge with only rudder.

Curt,
Thanks for the info. I'm flying the hogbipe with a J.R. xp652,
and with only 5 flights the radio and plane are both new to me.
The radio has three programable mixes capability. I guess it
would be too much to ask for some starting points on the mixing?
The plane is fun, and lands real nice.
Thanks again.
