Anybody heard anything about the fellows who were
building a man-carrying R/C plane powered by a
couple of miles of rubber bands? It was featured
in a couple of r/c magazines a year or two ago.

Just wondering if it ever got off the ground.

The last I heard they were still looking for a guy with guts enough (that
he didn't value too much) to hold the winder. :-]

I'm almost heavy enough for the job. :(

One article showed the rubber "engine" that had been tested to
destruction.
They used the PTO of a tractor to do the winding. Don't know how they
protected the operator from injury.

I saw the real thing at an airshow in Van Nuys or Burbank about two or
three years ago. There was a U-2 spyplane there too, and a landing by
the B-2 or whatever that plane is called with an outline like the Batman
logo. Dont know if the real thing ever flew. Looked pretty scary to me

The bandit hasn't flown yet. Its in one of our hangers in Van Nuys. The
guy ran out of money.
